On visiting the award winning Metro Fish Bar in Bury I ordered two portions of their premium succulent chicken nuggets and chips. I was served a portion of chips and six pebble like overcooked cheap chicken nuggets covered in what appeared to be bread crumbs. I bit into one, the outer shell was hard and burnt. The filling was indescribable but appeared to be reconstructed chicken of some description. I returned the meals and advised the staff that they were inedible. The manager quickly arrived on the scene and apologetically explained that they had run out of their normal chicken nuggets and had purchased a replacement form the local Asda store. This explains their Asda Smart Price appearance. I was given an alternative meal. If a restaurant runs out of a food product then that meal should be taken off the menu. They should not substitute that meal or part of a meal with a cheap supermarket substitute. If I pay restaurant prices then I expect restaurant food not back street chippy food. I will no longer be visiting this establishment and I suggest you think twice before you do.

Great food and lovely place to eat but yes, the staff are very slow and it's not the best service. It's very odd service cause when I visited I had a 2 for 1 voucher but didn't pre-book a table. When we walked in they said we could not sit down without booking. I could understand this if the place was full but there was nearly all the tables empty. She still insisted we phone to book even though we were stood there! What I think she wanted me to do was step outside and phone to book a table for there and then! I ended up just leaving as I couldn't be bothered to phone a shop I was stood in. I have been in before that though and the food was great. Just a shame about the service.

Lovely fish and chips and as we used a 2 for 1 voucher it was fantastic value for money for the two courses we had. We ate in the lovely cafe which was very clean, comfortable and obviously new. The toilets were also of a good standard and very clean.
Unfortunately, the niceness was tainted with the service we received. Our order was taken almost begrudgingly by the waitress who proceeded to treat us almost like an inconvenience. It came across that she did not wish to be there and didn't mind us knowing this. The service was also very slow - we were in there for nearly 2hrs!!
Worth going if you just want nice food in a nice environment - just don't expect service with a smile!!!

It's ok.. not worthy of the award, but it's a nice place and worth a visit if you're going past.

This place had potential but the service from senior staff is awful. We had numerous problems with an older male member of staff and finally wrote to the owner to complain after he shouted at us about something another table had done. The owner never even responded to the complaint.
I loved the place initially but found the standards have dropped significantly. Have no intention of visiting again and I know many others who agree

some of the best fish and chips I have tasted for a long time. The chips were brown and dry and the fish was large, fresh and cooked in a light crispy batter. The menu was quite varied, including scampi, pies, puddings, etc as well as a selection of starters and desserts. The Fish Bar, which only opened in January, together with the cafe, are beautifully designed and decorated with an entirely black and white theme.
The only criticism which I have is that, although the staff are friendly and helpful, the service is quite slow
