Give a wide berth to this sub-standard boho pseudo gastro-pub. The Met would like you to think that they are way ahead in the gastro-pub stakes...stop-press....they're not, by a long way, Forget what you see online if you go on a Sunday, all that is found is mediocre and bland fare. Boring starters of heavy carbs unseasoned salad and insipid smoked salmon did not bode well. Cheddar, Spring onion and mushroom crumble sounded inspirational: in reality looked like something the cat had thrown up...and tasted similar (one would imagine!). When we complained a superb 'super salad' replaced it...what we didn't know was that we would have to pay even more for the inconvenience of a late meal .....said salad costing even more than the atrocious crumble! AND STEER CLEAR OF THE BURGERS! stale bread purporting to be focaccia, offering medium and well done burgers....both instructions ignored and burgers came incinerated...dry, unseasoned...do far better at home! so save yourselves £100 and cook at home for your nearest and dearest...at least find somewhere that can cook decent fare at decent prices!

I have been going into the metropolitan in west didsbury for many years with a group of local friends. therefore i feel well placed to write an honest and frank review.
For a long time now this place has been slipping in standards based largely on the fact that it is a busy place. because of this, the staff have become lethargic, disinterested and arrogant. The biggest problem however is the management who at best are inept incompetent and frankly laughable, led by big mel, who makes basil fawlty look good.
When she is not picking on people with learning difficulties - or bullying staff on minimum wage, she can be guaranteed to be overseeing a dirty bar, slow service and TGI Fridays standard food. She does however manage to do it in a snooty manner which implies that she is slightly better than you - which clearly shes not otherwise she wouldn't work there
You will not be able to get served quickly on a Friday and Saturday - you will not be able to move in there on a Sunday because of toddlers crawling on the floor - during the week, mothers with oversized prams will block the entire space - ordering their coffee and cake (making it last 2 hours) - which inevitably slows down service because the staff cant work the coffee machine
The food is very average, and gets away with it because its not a bad building which papers over some of the very large cracks. I would recommend most of the other places on burton rd as being better.
In conclusion the met is at the moment the place to go for people with little imagination on a friday or saturday. It will however die a death in much the same way as other crazily busy places have over the last few years. This is because the EIGHT managers are basically children who have no idea what they are doing and will sink the place.
Average prices:
Pint - £4.20
Wine - £18 per bottle
Meal for 2 with drinks - £70
Bottle of Peroni - £4
Vodka and orange - £5

Really lovely pub with an impressive wine list, all staff seem very helpful and a great atmosphere to meet friends. It's a shame it isn't more central in Manchester as this is what were missing.

I had a great lunch here on Friday. The steak sandwich with red onion jam was great at only £7.95. chips were homemade and like chippy chips with little crispy bits, not like the uniformed chips you get in similar establishments. The fire was roaring and the staff attentive. Will be back.

I lived in W Didsbury from 1997 - so used to eat at the Metropolitan a lot. It used to be great. I have been back there twice recently - once for drinks on a Friday night (never again it felt like a Yates' pub except a lot dearer). I also had lunch there midweek. I had the Metro burger. This used to be excellent. However, it came on a "value" bun & the bacon was what can only be described as flaccid. Not the gastropub fare that it used to be. Overpriced and resting on it's laurels.

I haven't been to The Metropolitan to eat in a long time. I used to drink here all the time from when I was at University up until I left the area a few years ago. After returning to Manchester, I went to meet up with some friends for a meal. I was surprised by the menu. i was expecting pub grub but it was more like a fine dining experience. The choice was vast, the food delicious and the service smiley and efficient. I would definitely reccomend it. Think we're even having our Christmas reunion here this year.

I have made a comment already on this website about the Met, but I visited there again last night and had to put finger to keyboard once more. It was amazing, I went with my parents and my dad and I shared the fish pie!!!! There was enough for 3 people easier but somehow we managed to polish it off between the two of us. Maybe that was because it was so delicious!!! We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and everything was perfect. The Met is now officially my favourite place in West Didders!

I went to The Metropolitan last week for my "tea" and had a gorgeous meal. The service was a tad slow and there was a misunderstanding about the garlic bread but our waitress dealt with it superbly and was very professional. I thought that the price was a bit expensive since it a pub but no more expensive than anywhere else of a similar style! Would be a bargain to make use of the before 7pm offer! Overall very enjoyable and very tasty - will defo go back.
Metropolitan, The
Simply Outstanding! This Place Is So Well Perfect! Seems To Be Very Traditional In Character While Up With The Times!
