My wife and I called in at The Mill House several months ago to assess it's potential as a venue to spend New Year's Eve and found the staff both courteous and helpful.
My wife subsequently booked for the New Year's Eve 2009 function (buffet), at The Mill House at £48/head in good time.
To show good faith she paid a deposit of £50.
On New Year's Eve day, she developed full blown flu and had to take to her bed.
I rang the Mill House, explained the situation and asked if it would be possible to transfer the deposit to a meal to be taken at a later time, when my wife had recovered.
We only recently discovered the Mill House and have been looking forward to dining there and would probably have done so on a regular basis if impressed.
I was met with a flat 'No' from the Manager, delivered by the Assistant Manager, who told me that the Manager had said we should have informed them earlier.
I explained that you do not plan to catch the flu, that I did not want a refund but intended to spend the money and probably more on a meal, but this still had no effect.
I pointed out that we have been looking forward to dining there and were a potential long term investment, but that had no effect either.
Consequently, all the publicity about how magnanimous the Manager is on the Mill House website cuts no ice with me and, coincidentally, the part of their website where you can post comments does not work.
