Mimino in Kensington is one of the only places in London to savour authentic Georgian cuisine. The chef here spent 10 years cooking for the Georgian President during the Soviet era and has entertained the likes of Margaret Thatcher, Richard Nixon and Eduard Shevardnadze. Classic Georgina dishes like Chanakhi (Georgian lamb stew) and Khinkali (Georgian dumplings) feature as well as 40 bins of Georgian wine. The basement restaurant is reached from an entrance on Allen Street and after a recent refurbishment boasts a bright welcoming ambience with modern artworks adorning the walls. Mimino is open evenings from Monday through Saturday until midnight.
My husband and I were most upset by our experience of this restaurant and the ghastly attitude of the owner. His waiters and waitresses seem depressed or even afraid. The food was average at best with nothing authentic except the odd dish. Poor value for money and don't dare make a complaint or you will be shown the door. Please avoid this pale imitation of what Georgian cuisine has to offer at all costs - "Tbilisi" on the Holloway Rd is far superior.
