Something a little odd about the reviews here. The Living Room clearly not by any stretch the 'best restaurant in York' - it would say so itself (the possible best is J Baker's BTW). It should be a cheap(ish) corporate place. Food is mainly adequate but can be poor eg over cooked veg seems a speciality. Drinks should be treated with care - any place that uses open 'old' Champagne in cocktails must be viewed with suspicion.

I must say I am sorely disappointed with this place! I was refused entry by the bouncers one Thursday at 8 pm despite making a reservation. After discussion, we were eventually allowed in but my friend was stopped after I entered to allowed a bunch of men out. We checked at the Restaurant section and to confirm the reservation but we left stranded by an ignorant waiter. However, once we were seated, the service by our waiter, Michael was brilliant. The food was mediocre but I was so pleased about the service I tipped him £5.00 (for a £25 bill).

Hated this place - was greeted by surly staff who told us to wait while they figgled with computer- restaurant was empty, but seated under air conditioner, menu slapped down on table and left without offer of drinks.
Decided to leave without ordering. The bar was full of teenage girls tanking up for what looked like a big night out.
Don't go there if you want a quiet evening, there are better restaurants just up the road

The food and service was excellent and even though the prices are on the high side, the quality of the food was outstanding, so value for money really. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, Their professionalism and friendliness was second to none.

Although at first glance, the menu may appear pricey to some. The quality by far exceeds the cost. Well mannered staff, great ambience and exquisite food. Whether you are out for a special occasion or a dining casually - The Living Room feels comfortable.
