we booked this restaurant on recommendations from this site and was totally blown away with what we served. every dish we had tasted superb and our guest from Italy was shocked and surprised . we never normally eat Chinese food but if you do try this place i am sure you will like it. the portions were on the large side and not all main dishes were finished, that said the food was delicious. this place will definitely see me again. the only downside was it was very quiet for a Saturday evening, only 3 tables booked.

I found this place from Internet reviews as I am new to Leeds. I often research places first as I do not get to go out too often these days. I went on my own as my family live abroad. Mulan is a nice place in the old Jewish area of Leeds City Centre. I used to know this area well in my younger days. I spoke with the girl working there and she said it also used to be a school where people learned to bake and cook. She was a very sweet young girl and told me a bit about the purpose of the restaurant. It turns out that there are many different dishes in Chinese food and the people at Mulan want to share this with us. I don't know Chinese food that well, but she gave me little samples of dishes. Dim Sums she called them. And she told me Dim Sum means touched by the heart or a little bit of heart, meaning it was made with love for me. It was a lovely afternoon at Mulan, and the staff were superb. They were very helpful and the meal was not dear at all. I left not only full but also a little bit enlightened by my experience there.
I would advise you if you go out for Chinese in Leeds city centre to support this place. Especially during this credit crunch time when I think all restaurants are suffering. They do some lovely dishes and seem to have and truly unique, altruistic approach to dining. I will be back and hope you fellow reader go and pay a visit too.

Wow, I eat the food here and it's so good it makes me home sick. A lot of my friends go now and it's the best place to go for Chinese food. I eat the dim sum. I like the fresh noodles too. So good. The noodles are famous now :) Peace out. Wei Wei

I went today and it was packed full of Chinese people. Looked like some kind of party. But it turns out it was a normal Dim Sum thing and it's really popular to sit and eat little dishes of food for ages. I went with a Chinese friend and she helped me choose. I was the only white person there and this place must be like a secret. But the food was good and everyone seemed to know everyone so it wasn't their first time. It's always good if there is Chinese in a Chinese restaurant I think. Really nice place and really reasonable prices as well. At the end we were totally full and only paid under a tenner each. I also highly recommend it!

We had an early meal before a show. We couldn't do it justice in such a short time! We were regaled with samples of their noodle dishes and Mooli - just wonderful! The chef also gave us a demo of noodle swinging and carving. Word of warning- when they say a dish is hot, it is!
The demo gave us a view of a spotless kitchen. Superb friendly service and excellent value. We'll definitely be back for more leisurely appreciation.

I've only been here a couple of times now, but every time it's great. It's a Chinese restaurant with a really nice relaxed atmosphere. I have taken my friends and my mum. There is not many places I can do that. The prices are really good, the food is great and I love the noodles. I think I have actually started craving them. They are so fresh you can see them being made in the kitchens at Mulan. There is this great dish that's simply called poached pork. I've been with my Chinese friends and they say it is just like back home. Be warned though it's massive and it's quite spicy! The first time I went I over ordered, which was great but I had no room for desserts. This time I went they had changed the ice-cream menu. I had a mix of green tea ice-cream and rose petal sorbet and they even brought me a sample of wasabi ice-cream (it was really nice but I went for the green tea). I was really impressed because I have never seem such a range of ice-creams and sorbets! Anyway, the whole night was great. And it was a lot busier than the last time I went. Definitely somewhere for the slightly more adventurous Chinese food-lover.

I went here last night with my boyfriend. It took us ages to find it because it is off the beaten track. But it was worth it because we were going to the West Yorkshire Playhouse after and it's only round the corner. Gemma, our host was great, she took ages and talked us through pretty much the whole menu (still don't have a clue about most of it) but it was all delicious. She even organised for us to have this special demonstration which I have never seen before. The chefs came out and actually showed us how he made the noodles. It was fantastic.
The whole night was a real surprise. We thought we were just getting a standard Chinese and we got a lot more. Would really recommend this place. Give it a try.

I went to this restaurant on the opening night. It was really good and really busy. We had some weird and wonderful things, my favourite was the duck pancake rolls and little white turnip parcels. They were really delicious. All the chefs seemed to be Chinese and there was one who did the fresh noodle demonstrations in the special window bit. It was a really good night out and we will definitely go back again!

Well we booked this place by accident, meaning to book the Chinese buffet downstairs, but we're very glad we made the mistake! The food was northern Chinese, not your average take away or buffet food, so it was all quite different. We had a set menu at £11, which I would recommend as you get to try things you wouldn't ordinarily pick. The food just kept coming - soup and then 4 starters and then the best noodle broth I have ever tasted, and then I lost count of how many main courses (lamb & cumin and pork & aubergine dishes particularly good) and then fruit for dessert. It just went on and on and we ate it all - they even brought out some more sweet and sour pork and rice as it got wolfed down so quickly. Another nice touch - we went with a Muslim friend who chooses to not eat pork, so they made additional dishes for him without any in.
Considering this place has only been open 3 days (hence no reviews) it far exceeded our expectations, and I'm sure we will visit again. I hope this review encourages people to move away from the tried and tested buffet options.
