Went here as a family for my sons graduation , lovely food and plenty of it. Friendly staff and very reasonable prices, would definitely go here again

Great dim sum, great value and a great waitress that helped us with the ordering and selection. Would recommend further visits.

the meal we had at the new emperor was fantastic the best Chinese meal we have ever had

Dim Sum is the most best in China Town ever, and all staff are always happy to serve whenever we need them for, quality of the food is very good, try out one of their signature food, 'Golden soft shell crab' thumb up!!

I'm afraid we seem to have had a very different experience to other recommenders on this list. Went on a Saturday night - the place half empty - and had what I can only describe as one of the most repulsive meals I have ever eaten. Anywhere. Period.
The 'chicken satay' was (not joking) turkey with gravy. No sight of a peanut anywhere. Or a chicken. All the food was incredibly, almost comically salty. Vegetables tasted mildewed. Prawn toast was hard and chewy. It all tasted like it had been sitting around for several days and re-heated in the microwave. The only bearable thing we had was the crispy seaweed.
Service was very friendly but not enough to salvage the experience - especially at £16 a head for starter and main. Sorry, but we won't be coming back.

Sorry to disagree with popular opinion. Having read its rave reviews we pitched up at the New Emperor on Sunday last and the whole experience was pretty depressing.
One starter forgotten. Crispy duck was dry and had poor texture, king prawns in satay sauce had no flavour or seasoning, the brown gloopy sauce barely distinguishable from the fillet of slimy beef in ginger and black beans. Bland, bland, bland!
Ordered a decent premier cru Chablis that was served too warm from cheap, horrible glasses. The request for an ice bucket for the sparkling mineral water that came at room temperature resulted in a wine cooler full of ice with the bottle sat on top. Clueless. Then the bill has 10% added automatically and the staff push you to add a tip when they bring over the credit card machine.
It wasn't overly busy, but FOUR other tables complained about slow service or dishes that had been ordered but forgotten. The decor is tired.
Don't often eat Chinese in town and if this really is one of the best, I'll stick to that policy.

Went to the New Emperor on Sat night and thought it was the worst experience in China town Manchester so far. Service was extremely poor, staff were rude, two dishes had hairs in them. We sat down to dine at nine, ordered straight forward banquet option for 4 people and service was so bad we didn't finish until 1am. The rude staff even started to hoover around us. The bill was also expensive considering the poor quality of food and service. Definitely one to avoid.

Not one of the best chinese meals we've ever had - went post-theatre perhaps this was the downfall, never waited so long for crispy duck! Sept 2007

We went to New Emperor for a pre theatre meal, the food was great, we will certainly go again. Only problem was that it was so busy that this reflected in the service which would probably been okay if we were not restricted by the fact that we had tickets for a show. We were constantly looking at the time wishing they would hurry up with the food. Still the food was very enjoyable when it came and we made the show with minutes to spare. This is one of the best Chinese Restaurants in city centre in my opinion, well worth a visit.

Had fabulous din sum, with friends who speak Cantonese, and therefore could order off the Cantonese menu. Have since been back - unfortunately the same delicacies aren't available to those of us who can't read Cantonese.
