As a visitor to Bradford just on a theatre trip we wandered the town and found this backstreet restaurant. They had a £4.95 any pizza/pasta offer before 7pm so we gave it a go.
Service was good, friendly and prompt but the positives ended there. The décor is how we seemed to think Italian restaurants should look in the 70’s. Fake stucco, roof tiles, vines etc. In fact it probably is the same décor this place had in the 70’s. The rear bar smells of damp and is covered with the red velour padded seating you find in Aberdeen Steakhouses. The menu had a good choice and we opted for a Tricolore Salad and a ‘Potato boat’ for starters. The Tricolore was a rather small portion of grey looking mozzarella and the hardest of inedible Avocado. The ‘Potato Boat’ was a slab of half an undercooked jacket potato covered in chopped salami and cheese. This reminded me of something a Mum would cook with their 4 year old to introduce them to fun cooking.
We had pizzas for main. One with Salami (again) and Chillies and one with Green Peppers and Chillies. The bases looked like the chef had battered them into half moon shapes and when placed on round plates looked, well…silly. The topping was scarce and bland. Thank god they were £4.95 and not the £8.95 full price pizza available after 7pm
We didn’t risk the rather unadventurous list of deserts.
Maybe this is good for a Central Bradford Restaurant but it’s about the worst Italian meal I’ve had since…well 1970. If this is ‘New’ Giuseppe’s I would have hated to visit the old one. We did think at first that given this is down a side street it must be good to survive….how wrong we were.
New Giuseppes Restaurant
We dined here last night before going to the IMAX. I was quite surprised at this restaurant tucked away down a side street. We were shown through the dining area into the bar which was quite surprising and very pleasant. The waitresses looked after us very well and I would recommend this restaurant to anyone. The Manageress even went out into the rain to find two of our party who didn't know Bradford Centre - what better service could you get anywhere.
New Giuseppes Restaurant
With limited cuisine of this calibur in the centre of Bradford, New Giuseppes could be considered one of the hidden secrets of the city. This is a great 'all round' performer catering for the romantic dinner for two, to the large family/office party, situated on two floors the upstairs is often used for private functions while the main restaurant is kept for smaller diners. The bar area separated from the eating space gives a place to sit and ponder over the wide range of choice on this menu. With an "Early Diner" special and a Lunchtime menu also available for that quick lunch hour break. Staff are pleasant and welcoming, service is always given with a smile.. Guaranteed once you've tried it once you will join the aleady well established group of regular visitors this asset to the city has.
