Went to the New York on a weekday evening - good service from both staff, attentive without being overbearing. Sometimes I feel places like yates do not ask if everything is ok enough and some more fancy places never leave u alone. Had a small steak for £6.50 (forget the new york themed name) and it was excellent, cooked perfectly, although there was only a few other eating so i couldnt say if the quality is worse when busy. my wife enjoyed her meal too, a burger.
Simple food certainly, but we felt full and satisfied by the service from the young waitress and barman and never had to move for sauces/drinks etc.
Drinks did go up at 8PM, although this was explained to us, although we had gone on other drinks that are not affected by then.
8/10, would recommend.

I recently visited the New York cafe bar, i ordered the salmon bagel when it arrived it was so hard i couldn’t even cut it in half and was scared of breaking a tooth on it i sent it back but after the time we waited for that didn’t bother to order anything else, my father ordered a steak baguette the meat was so burned he never even touched it, the managers attitude to my complaint was terrible in the middle of our discussion he answered the phone and turned his back on me, wouldn’t recommend you to take your worst enemy there maybe that’s why we were the only people in there.

Myself and a friend decided to try out the Early Bird Menu (2 courses for £7.95) at the new revamped New York Cafe Bar last night. Although our voucher said 7.30pm, when we arrived the waitress told us the menus said 7.00pm. She checked with the Manager and we were ok to choose from the Early Bird Menu.
For starters I chose the Chicken & Noodle Soup, my pal chose the Duck and Pancakes. When the food came I was surprised at the size of the portions, as they were pretty big for the price. Food tasted delicious and you weren't being rushed, so we had plenty of time to savour our meals.
For our mains, I chose Southern fried chicken strips, which came with potato wedges, rocket with a lovely sweet dressing on and proper coleslaw. My mate chose Spaghetti and meatballs, which would have fed the 2 of us! - again, food was freshly prepared and very tasty.
An added bonus was that we were sitting in one of the newly fitted booths, which are fitted with their own TV's - the Belarus v England game was on, so it was great sitting in comfort, watching the footy!
The waitress who served us was very good at her job, checking that our food was ok and not rushing us out.
If you are a smoker there is good undercover area out front. The toilets were clean, although they had run out of handtowels!
I will certainly be visiting again and would highly recommend a visit!

We visited the newly refurbished New York Cafe Bar and bought drinks and went upstairs to the new dining area after looking at wine menu whilst sat in the waiting area which was empty as was most of the restaurant (only 6 persons dining on two separate tables). We were approached by a person who we perceived to be a manager. Before we could ask to peruse the main menu, he asked in a demanding way whether we were dining. We informed him that we were not at this time. He said: “You are not allowed to bring drinks upstairs!” He then demanded that we go downstairs with our drinks. I asked him whether there were any signs stating that we should not be up in this area. He said: “We don't need a sign!” We were allowed upstairs by passing a door person who seemed quite happy to let us upstairs with our drinks. The manager then demanded that we go downstairs and take our drinks with us. We finished our drinks and left the premises. Not a good reception and we will not be dining here at all. We are aggrieved that we were treated so discourteously and rudely. We did note that one of the couples dining had to request the waitress at least twice to correct her order when delivered to the table. The manager in the meantime pulled up a chair at the other table with 4 people on it and joined their company.
