Went to a dinner dance here at the weekend have to say;
The food was a complete let down - The soup starter tasted of pepper and nothing else. The vegetables were cold and overcooked, the new potatoes were cold tasteless and overcooked, the roast potatoes were cold, soggy and burnt and were not crispy at all doubt they had even seen a roasting dish, the coffee when poured as a white coffee looked like it was still a black coffee. The pudding was okay probably the best part of the meal for those who had the chocolate tart but the cheese and biscuits were a big let down with no choice of cheese just what you were chosen to have and each plate differed.
It was a little disconcerting having to have a drink in the bar in formal evening wear with locals and received some odd stares form the regulars which is a little off putting - this hotel could do with a bar area that is separate for dinner dances.
The function room was lovely (Ballroom) like the new decor.
Service by the staff was very good, the evening was enjoyable despite the poor food.

We had our staff Xmas night out in Feb and the whole evening was excellent. The chef Darren was very obliging and his assistants were very polite and nice. We especially enjoyed the piano music in the back ground. Later we enjoyed the hospitality of the manager Max (lovely Man). We'll be back on our next function

The two course luncheon at the very good price of £6,75 was excellent value and the fish and chips were top class. Also a good selection of sweets.Very elegant surroundings in the dining room

This is a classic restaurant, where cooking is perfection and the wines superb: for those unhurried meals where you don't want to leave!
