My girlfriend and I was lazing on a Sunday morning and didn't want to cook a roast so we googled pubs near Okehampton and this one stood out. When we walked in we were welcomed by an open fire place and pleasant landlady. We were dubious about the food due to the rustic look of the inn, however when our roast was placed in front of us we had a huge smile on out face as it looked amazing, lots of meat and even more seasonal veg! To go with this there was a great selection of Ales, recommend the Legendry. Small selection of desserts on offer but oh my goodness, the apple, raisen and rum crumble was out of this world, not only that, it was a huge portion! Great value for money, great food and drink, gat experience. Highly reccommended.

My next visit is on the 05/05/2012, cant wait,
I arrange for my Sons/Brother/ and Nephew a couple of times a year, my dartmoor days! I hire a minibus/people carrier, and travel to some of the pubs on the moor that I first visited back in the early 70s (when I should have not been drinking) My first visit to Wonson was in 1972! never forgot a fantastic pub! As I said I cant wait! My last visits have been approx noon, this time around we should get there approx 7pm. evening hospitality!! great stuff.

Seriously, this is what an English pub is all about. What's wrong with wanting sausage, egg & chips occasionally? Gastro pubs - my bottom. Quality fun pub frequented by the great and interesting with a brilliantly quirky landlady. Don't miss an opportunity to visit and see what others are failing to emulate.

In this day of theme restaurants, e.g. Italian, Indian, Chinese, Mexican, or fast food outlets such as KFC, Burger King, etc., the only place to get traditional British cuisine, as far as I can make out, is the British Pub. Not every pub will serve food, and some seem to range from sandwiches only, through pies only to several course meals. The attraction of pub meals, is not just the food, but the ambience of the place. There is the informality you do not find in a standard restaurant, and the comely and relaxed atmosphere you do not find in a fast food restaurant. The northmore Arms is the epitome of all that is good in local English pubs. Friendly staff, cracking grub and an outside loo to boot! This is a must for every weary traveller!

Small friendly pub with large open fire and warm atmosphere.
Food is excellent for quality, quantity, presentation and cost. Food menu is varied and there should be something for everyone.
Real ales are the order of the day straight from the barrel. Cider also on tap.
Try it - you won't be disappointed!

I would like to first clarify that I am in the trade myself and I have finally found what lots of people have been trying to recreate across the width and breadth of the Country, YES finally a real pub with real locals, real ales and a real atmosphere.I could not of enjoyed my lunch more, the service was impeccable and the food was excellent.I will without a doubt return here the next time I am down.

The Northmore Arms is pretty much the perfect country pub. It is about the size of my front room with ceilings so low that anyone above 6ft 3in would probably have to duck. The beer is all local ale and is in the barrel not on tap, there are locals at the bar (mainly farmers, sometimes with there sheepdogs) all with their own tankards. The atmosphere is brilliant, all you could ever want from a country pub. The cooking is all homemade and delicious (particularly the steak and kidney pudding). You get proper pub helpings and low pub prices. All in all it is just about the best pub experience i have ever had not to mention the classic sloping garden and the outside toilet. I would recommend it to anyone and will visit as often as possible myself. If you go i can guarantee you will not be disappointed!
