We went to Obento on Saturday for lunch and ordered the mixed Bento box at £11.00 each, I was disappointed to find that the Tempura was breadcrumbed mixed seafood, even a battered Crab stick! One compartment was just 3 slices of orange another an incredibly unauthentic potatoe salad with dry hard rice and 3 pickle slices, incredibly unauthentic and not at all value for money, looked like it came from Iceland, really disappointing for a first visit, would not recommend

The menu serves Japanese food, but it's not close enough to what it's suppose to be, and I feel slight resentment that this place is called Japanese restaurant, because as far as I am concerned, it serves bastardised mock-Japanese food.
Rice used for sushi was hard - it was clear the rice was chilled in the fridge as well, something no respectable Japanese restaurant will ever do! That is one of the worst mistake non-Japanese make with sushi, it's unbelievably poor.
Yakitori again, was close enough to what you would be served in Japan but not close enough to be worth the price.
If you want nice sushi, just go to Yo! Sushi; ok, so they serve westernised bastardised mock-Japanese food as well but at least their rice used in sushi hasn't been put in fridge until it goes hard.

Really tasty dishes - freshness of the salmon was unbelievable. Loads of cooked sushi options too which my partner chose as he doesn't like raw fish. Meal for 2 including sake was under 35 pounds which we thought was very good valued. Highly recommended!

Food was okay, shocking service. Pre booked a table for a group of us. Everyone ordered starter and main, while my partner and I had a set menu.
Started promising as the food came out quick, three items came from the set menu, we then had to ask when the rest was coming after 15 mins (told that it was just coming), after another 30 mins when everyone had finished their bento boxes we still were with no additional food.
The rest of our party were offered dessert menus while we were still waiting!!
Was told that it was due to being very busy upstairs with 40 people. Considering that we booked in advance I find that it was a very poor excuse.
Paid for the food we had and more than likely will not be visiting again due to the service - not the food.

Had lunch there today, Jan 3rd 2008. restaurant was freezing cold, had to eat in our coats. Sushi fish, Salmon roe and sea urchin had been too long in the fridge and lost flavour. Miso soup much too sweet. Tempura coating undercooked and not crisp. Disappointing...won't go back.

I adore this place. It is the best japanese food I've tasted in a restaurant and the prices are so good that it doesn't hurt my wallet to go back again and again.
The express lunch deal is great value although I found two courses at lunch a bit much.
I recommend the yasai noodles in soup, I've had it twice and it is fantastic!

A wonderful experience, relaxed atmosphere, excellent food and a fair price. The set meals for 2 are indeed too much. Will certainly return and order in stages from the excellent sushi menu.

Two of us ordered the most extensive set dinner and could have fed a secret third person, so huge were the portions. Everything was quite lovely with only small exceptions, and certainly as far as value for money goes nothing could beat our 18 pound a head extravaganza. This was our first meal ever in Bristol and was superb!

Gorgeous food and very helpful staff. Attention to detail is very much the name of the game here. The lunchtime special is incredibly good value as well.
