I live just around the corner from the Rampant Lion, i go in there regularly to drink, working long hours as a chef myself i often don't have the time to cook myself. They have a fantastic all-round menu offering homemade burgers to traditional Italian homemade pizza's.... both of which are fantastic. This is the place to go for just great home cooked food... i strongly recommend to anybody who likes pub grub, although i have heard they get very busy on Sundays for Roasts which are meant to be equally as good.

The drinks are expensive and the foods an even worse. I ordered the fish and hand-cut chips and was served lukewarm crinkle oven chips and frozen battered fish. My friend's meal was equally as sorry looking; she ordered the roast which included frozen Yorkshire pudding. I should have just eaten at home, at least it would have been hot.
On a positive note I've heard that the rampant lion is a good little indie club but don't bother eating here - I know I won't ever again.

As I work around the corner from the Rampant Lion but had never eaten there i thought i'd better give it a try, and boy am i glad i did. the menu on offer was easy to read with no complicated dishes, vegetarian options and very inexpensive. As i was only eating with a colleague we only had 1 main each of the menu. I chose fish and chips(with mushy peas) which was delicious served with hand cut chips(just like mother made) and a fish which was so big i'm sure when it was caught, memories of Jaws came flooding back "you're gonna need a bigger boat" the batter was crispy throughout and the mushy peas were spot on. my compatriot chose a simple roasted veg ciabatta which was served with salad and onion rings, again this went down well. Both meals were washed down with the obligatory pint and it all came to a total of about £12-00. not bad considering i didnt need to eat for the rest of the day. oh, nearly forgot, the service was polite, no fuss and friendly. highly recommended.
