The Red Alligator in South Church is named after the 1968 Grand National winner which was trained by Denys Smith at his stables just across the road. The pub is about a mile from the centre of Bishop Auckland, in the shadow of St Andrew’s church, and has a spacious bar area and a dining room and snug to the rear. Under new management, it’s open daily for lunch and dinner with a special carvery on Sundays.
