The restaurant was nicely decorated and had a nice atmosphere If you ignore the awful warbling in the background, The staff weren't friendly but quick and highly efficient. The food on the other hand was awful. I took two bites of this £14 plate of 3 prawns and what I can only call terrible and hard rice crispy treats with the worst tangiest processed sweet and sour sauce and wanted to throw up. My stomach cannot tolerate awful food, but my partner on the other hand has a stomach of steel and he felt worse after a bite. I cannot stress how terrible the food was, the Chef could have literally defacated a Chinese takeaway on our plates and would have tasted better. It is overpriced garbage I've had better Chinese food at a £2.50 all you can eat buffet. Don't waste your time or money.

Bout 16 of us went for lunch on Friday. 2 tables. We were seated no problem but as we were 3 groups of 2 Chinese couples came in after us. They were all served and food in front of them before our waitress came back to take our food and drink orders....That said, when it did all arrive the 2 starters and mains all round were gorgeous...Well worth the 9 pound per head, however our friends on the other table had a weird old time. The waitress kept bring out some kind of bread nobody ordered. (3 times out and asking and being forceful saying someone ordered it) On checking at the end their bill was 45 quid over what it should have been so they obviously mentioned it....Not happy staff. Went into kitchen and stayed there ???? In the end my friends decided to pat exactly what they owed and walked out. The staff popped back in and just stared at them...How rude....So all in all, half of us would go back but the other half would certainly not....Bizarre....and a shame coz the food was lovely

After reading all the recommendations, we went to Red Chili to sample their menu. Arrived at about 6pm, a very encouraging sign is that it is already half full. We didn't have to wait long for our table, but the seating was very cramp to say the least.
First impression is that the place is too dark; the seating too cramp; like every other person is sitting on the other's lap. With the new trend swinging towards the light and airy feel; this is a step backward. Personally, we did feel claustrophobic.
Because there are a lot of people cramming in a very small space; and with A/C off during the first 30 min, it was very very stuffy indeed.
We had to wait at least 20 min for our order to taken. And another 30 min for the food to arrive.
After all the waiting, the food finally arrived. But there was one dish missing; as before we have to attract their attention to let them know what had happen. which is about another 10 mins. It was a missed order and we have to wait another 10 mins for it. Generally, the food was on the greasy side, but it was ok.
Considering there are 7 to 8 service staff, you must think the service would be great. Not so, absolutely no service to speak of; no one even bother to ask whether our food was all right. All the Staff is moving around very slowly as if they were half asleep. No smile what so ever. But they were laughing and joking in the Bar area !? The place is only half full. Imagine what would it be like if it were full.
The Manager seen to be doing all the odd jobs except looking after the customers, which is what he is paid for. Let other staff do these miscellaneous jobs. It is not as though they have not got enough staff.
After asking for the bill, we have to wait almost 15 mins for the change after they collect it back. Did they think it was their tips?
The food is ok, but the seating is cramp; the whole place claustrophobic; the service unprofessional and unfriendly. All in all, not a very good experience.
We would not recommend this restaurant to anyone on this occasion !!

I booked a table here for friends a few weeks ago. I'd been here many a time and never had a bad dish. It smelled good as we sat down but we all walked out when we realised that Red Chilli sells shark fin soup. I've only just heard about the effect the demand for shark fin soup is causing, many sharks will be extinct in 15 years. What a shame. I hope they remove it from the menu soon so we can return.

On Monday 8th sep I had the great pleasure of eating in this what can only be described as the finest chinese restaurant I have ever eaten in. I ordered hot & sour soup which was delightful then for my main meal I had Fillet steak in red chilli which I have had recently in China town in London which compared to this was like eating tasteless rubber. The meal can only be described as being mind blowingly hot I have eaten phals but they were nothing on this every mouthful was bang instant heat as the sichan pepper kicked in. With this I also had egg fried rice which was as fluffy and light as cotton wool. I would give this 10/10 & recommend to anyone who is going to Manchester

All the comments about food here are quite right - it's an excellent restaurant with good food. However, they've now started to refuse to serve tapwater (they said it was contaminated, and we had to buy bottled!!) even when spending £45 on a meal for two. Drinking water that's been driven around Europe is not my thing when we've got so much of it here. So great restaurant, but with some really daft ideas creeping in (they never used to do that).

Red Chilli is the best restaurant in Manchester. The ethnic food scene has survived and flourished whilst traditional restaurants have come and gone. Red Chilli is the only chinese that puts all of its homestyle dishes on the English menu. The food is authentic chinese- not a UK style MSG palace serving ribs, sweet and sour chicken and special chow mein. The fiery dishes are hot, the fish dishes are incredible- I have eaten melt in the mouth pomfret and fresh razor clams that were fine examples of the way that the Chinese serve fish so simply. The cold starters are a must, and there are dishes on the menu that truly adventurous eaters will love to take on. Even the service is exceptional- quick, friendly, and eager to recommend the best dishes. 10/10 and has been so since the day that it opened.

Quite an experience - good food - especially for the adventurous, nice lively atmosphere, excellent service. Ambience - it was packed full of Chinese people enjoying their meals and chatting away Food - two menus - "western" and "Chinese" - I would recommend the Chinese to the adventurous as the meals ordered were delicious and far fresher flavoured that the standard "western" Chinese fare
