Impressed with the River Wyre pub. A big imposing building but comfortable and relaxing inside. Real fires make it and the subdued lighting makes it atmospheric. We enjoyed our choices, oven baked Camembert, ham hock, chicken pie washed down with a nice Rioja. After dinner we sat in the bar area and enjoyed some G&T's. A good night.

My friend and I visit the wyre hotel once maybe twice monthly our last visit 4/8/2012 wasa to say the least a very disappointing meal we both had as a main course plaice costing £12.50 each. The fish was so small that there was very little flesh to eat once we had removed the skin &bone,I feel this was a very expensive plate of chips and salad.which was not value for money. WE SHALL NOT BE VISITING AGAIN ANY TIME SOON.

Starters were fine 8/10- then disaster struck. Fillet Rossini - £nearly £16.00 - came not done enough. was supposed to be served on a bed of pated mushroom and bread. complained and returned still not good enough and my mum had eaten her meal by that time which was also sub standard- the mixed grill !!! very poor and will stick to the shard bridge !!!!

We must have been unlucky, after reading other comments!
-Myself and my Wife went yesterday for a meal. We ordered the WARM Mediterranean breads, and olive oil/balsamic vinegar for a shared starter. It arrived, PLONKED ON THE TABLE, NO SERVIETTES, AND WE HAD TO ASK FOR TWO SIDE PLATES, THE WAITRESS DIDNT SEEM TO LIKE THAT, AND PRACTICALLY THREW BOTH OF THEM DOWN IN FRONT OF ME.The so called warm breads-the roll was ice cold in the centre, and the Pitta bread, overdone in the microwave, and was like leather. We couldn't eat them, and had to send them back---no real apology--just a £2 coin, was put on the table. We also noticed at the other tables, the waitress brought a choice of sauces etc. on a tray for the meal, we didn't have that --we had to ask for some vinegar, for our small portion of frozen chips! My wife's, fish was nice-no complaints. I had the mixed grill-steak tough as old boots, peas tasteless &obviously economy pack.
Overall very disappointing, and certainly NOT VALUE FOR MONEY.If you do want a good meal COOKED BY THE CHEF & NOT DELIVERED IN. Go to the New Holly at Forton--or Saracens at Preesall, and the outside Restaurant at the Barn in Scorton. We eat out regularly, and maybe our standards are high, we don't mind Pub Grub, if they don't charge Restaurant prices!!!And when it came to pay, everyone has to join the same queue , to either order the meals, or puddings, and people are waiting to pay.

Sunday Lunch!!! Pathetic!!! certainly not enough on the plate. Child size portions (small child at that) and not worth the trip out. Very disappointed as saved up for a birthday treat and came away hungry. It was tasty but measly portions. Never again!!! bonus...we got a nice chippy on the way home :)
