About Royal Hotel

The Royal Hotel is a former coaching inn situated on the edge of the Scottish Highlands in Comrie, Perthshire. The current owners took over in 1996 and set about creating "a beautiful, intimate, small, luxury hotel in Scotland" and this they have achieved with wooden floors, oil paintings and sophisticated muted colour schemes mixed with traditional dark wood furniture and sumptuous soft furnishings. It's all set against the backdrop of some of Britain's most spectacular scenery. The Royal has 11 bedrooms and an AA-rosetted restaurant with an award-winning wine list. There's also said to be a ghost -  the Green Lady.

What a find! Comrie may sit in the midst of the glorious Perthshire countryside but it’s never going to win a prettiest village award. So our expectation weren’t terribly high as we strolled around looking for a spot of lunch. But we stepped through the doors of the Royal Hotel and it literally took our breath away. What a beautiful place it is, more like an upmarket French auberge than the pub we were expecting. The food was very good too and in fact the whole place was so impressive that we came back the next day for Sunday lunch with my mother.
