My partner and I loved San Carlo. Heard lots about this restaurant and it lived up to our expectations. A real buzz about the place and the food was excellent!

Ate at this great restaurant on friday night for the first time and we were not disappointed!! Everything I had heard and read about this place was spot on. Firstly, this was one of the busiest restaurants I have ever been to, a good sign!! The number of staff working ensured that although they were busy they were never rushed and someone was always on hand to pour wine or clear empty plates. It really was very well organised chaos! The food was fantastic! I ordered "Pesce Veneziana" for a starter which was very reasonably priced at £8.95. It came and was a huge pan full of scallops, clams, king prawns, mussels and fish in a very tasty tomato broth on a piece of bread soaked in the sauce. This could easily have been a main meal but was exeptional quality and so I ate it alll!! Main course was King prawn spagettini and a lasagne for the wife. Both were excellent quality and very tasty indeed. All washed down with a Chianti Reserva, this was a great experience and I can't wait to go again!!

On a recent visit to San Carlo with my wife I have to say the food was quite appalling we had penna with prawns the prawns were the size of my finger nail and not many I did send them an email with not much success.
Compared to other restaurants there customer service is very poor.
I just think they don't care So marks out of ten a lucky 1

I went to San Carlo on Thursday for a late lunch with a friend. I have been very satisfied by the quality of the food. I had lobster which was fresh and prepared to perfection. First, I was a bit unconfident to order seafood because of a bad experience in another well known restaurant few months ago but I saw the waiter bring a lobster to the table next to us and it seemed really nice. Indeed, it was delicious! Finally, I have found a restaurant that can offer good value for money and a good service.

Myself and my girlfriend visited San Carlo this weekend for our 5th anniversary and we couldn’t have asked for a better night. As soon as we were greeted, we received top notch service, with an attentive (but not overbearing) waiter and enjoyed a relaxed atmosphere. The food was authentic, rich and nothing short of amazing. Needless to say, now that we’ve found this little gem, we’ll definitely be coming here again on a more regular basis!

Our Daughter left for Birmingham University last week and so we joined her in her new city of residence for a farewell meal. The San Carlo in Manchester was a favourite of hers and since it was a special occasion we agreed to give the Birmingham restaurant a try. Having not visited the city in over 10 years, google maps was needed to ensure we didn’t get lost. The city has changed a lot since when I was here last and San Carlo was a 5 minute walk from the central station. Once inside, the restaurant was much different in design, but was no less luxurious. Amy ate Spaghetti Bolognaise as usual. The food was just as tasty as Manchester, hopefully the rest of the city will treat her well in her 3 years there.

Visited the restaurant at lunch time - this is one of our worst dining experiences EVER. My husband was treated to a stainless steel bolt in his risotto !! Not only was no apology given the staff treated us disrespectfully as if this was somehow our fault. It was disappointing at how Italian hospitality and customer service was so poor - it has however made interesting conversation with all our friends and colleagues.

Until last night I would recommend wholeheartedly the San Carlo experience. The seafood is excellent and the atmosphere is peerless.
However, last night (Bank Holiday Monday) we had a pretty poor time and I hope that it is only down to the date. My snails were possibly the worst starter I have ever eaten - if I had cooked the ones my 5 year old brings into the house at home i would have enjoyed more flavour. The sides orders were wrong and delivered throughout the meal as a result. My wife's lobster thermidor was essentially sauce with some fish bits in.
Last night notwithstanding however, and the number of great meals I've eaten in there outweigh the poor ones plenty to one, this is still a great place for either a special occassion or just to people watch!
