I have been twice to this Italian restaurant in Manchester city centre. I had an excellent avacado and crab to start and while the risitto was a little salty I enjoyed it. Very good atmosphere with attentive and friendly staff. Would recommend. Maggie,

We made a late reservation for a Sunday evening but upon entering the restaurant the Maitre d' ignored what I was saying and asked "table for two?" despite the restaurant being empty were not asked where we would like to sit and were shown to the far end and seated next to a very noisey couple. Before we could even sit down we were given a menu and asked if we would like drinks. We asked for a large bottle of water and the waiter returned with a small bottle of water. Within about two minutes the waiter asked if we had decided what we wanted to order which was cleary not enough time to browse the vast menu. We ordered bread and olives which were fine, also the chicken liver and duck pate which was quite nice but we also ordered the 'buffalo' mozzarella with parma ham and tomatoes; what they served us was not buffalo mozzarella, it was very poor quality bog standard mozzarella of supermarket quality (cut in half and slapped on some ham and tomato), as was the parma ham, the tomato was also supermarket standard, a tastless watery beef tomato. Throughout eating our starter the waiter and the Maitre d' kept popping round the corner to see if we had finished, conmsistently and persistently without any discreteness whatsoever. Before my partner had the chance to finish a mouthfull of food and place knife and fork in the centre of the plate the waiter sprang out and took away the plates. For main we ordered milanese veal and the pheasant, the veal was tastless and lukewarm, this was served with spaghetti napoli, the sauce had seperated and the spaghetti was overcooked. The pheasant was very touch and the sauce it came in was exteremely salty and had a skin form on the surface. Both meals had clearly been reheated. We were also given a small bowl of vegetables covered in grease and tastless. The portions were huge and of horrifically poor quality. We both left feeling sick. Avoid this retaurant.

We went for a party last friday. It was the first time I have been there but would definitely go again and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. Excellent service, friendly staff. And the food was very tasty.

A real Italian restaurant with a great atmosphere. The waiters were really friendly and helpful. The food was gorgeous - will definitely be back

I eat out religuously and admit San Carlo's food is very nice: but in no way can this ever compensate for rude customer service and waiters. I will not be recommending this restaurant to anyone and you will not find me within a three mile radius of the place.

The atmosphere is genuinely Italian - noisy / frenetic Food is obviously cooked as you sit as the kitchen is in full view I enjoy every visit and it is comparable to any of the best quality Italian restaurants in the UK - and I know a few ! I will be back again next Monday (23 10 06)
San Rocco
Most enjoyable Lasagne served with panache on linen cloths and linen knapkins. A rare treat. Always friendly and helpful staff
San Rocco
Currently my favourite Italian restaurant in Manchester since the demise of Paulo's. Good food, good service - a hidden gem well worth searching out!
