This place has changed hands recently
New young staff finding their feet so there have been a few teething problems however I visited on Easter Sunday with a group or 8 and the food and service was faultless
My daughter and I both thought it was the nicest roast dinner we have had in a very long time
Give this place a try...we will definitely be going again

Made a reservation for Sunday dinner , waited over an hour for our food , it came luke warm with hot gravy , cheeses missing off kids cheese burgers , chunky chips soggy . Very disappointed. Noticed a sign saying expect to wait upto an hour for your food at peak times , had we been told this when entering we would have gone elsewhere which I wish we had . £80 for food that was just average

Went to the Ship a few weeks ago on a saturday, a little more expensive than the rest however food absolutely scrumptious. Wife is a chef and even she complimented the quality of the steak.

CHARGED EXTRA DUE TO MY ALLERGY Was there for my Partners birthday. Food and presentation was good. VERY SMALL PORTIONS which would not fill a 3 year old. I had corned beef hash I asked for this without the egg as I have an allergy, I was asked would I like a cheese topping instead and was charged £1 extra. We were not asked if everything was ok with the meal as other restaurants do, when I asked if the apple pie contained egg, the reply was surprising "it may or may not". The place was cold no heating on, the staff decided to do some very noisy table removing dragging not lifting chairs while we were having dessert. Our custom was not acknowledged when leaving, drinks expensive. Extremely poor service, very disappointed, will never return. Better service and plenty food at any carvery.

We've eaten at The Ship many times and never been disappointed , friendly staff and great food, it is a little more expensive , but worth it. Great atmosphere and decor. Always busy what ever time of day you go would highly recommend it .

4 of us went to the Ship at Elswick on the May Bank Holiday Monday at just after 2pm, the place was not too busy and we chose a nice table in the conservatory, and settled down with the menu. The wives picked a Curry and Hot Pot respectively, my friend and I went for the “Posh Pie” When it arrived it was served with Frozen Chips that were absolutely the most tasteless I can ever remember having being presented with, the gravy boat content was like liquid gel and the pie though looking good and actually tasted good, had a severe shortage of meat content and the special Stilton Cheese that it was to contain according to the menu, apparently had arrived too late to go into the batch we ate, the Green Beans were good and to be fair our ladies both enjoyed their choices. At £10 for a plate of Pie and Chips, I had expected fresh chips and if the Ships wants to be considered a Good Food Venue as it not really a Pub in the true sense of the word, it needs to think beyond easy options for the chef.Wardie

This was our first trip to the ship. It was excellent! The menu was great and the children's menu had much to offer. It had a lovely feel to the place and the conservatory is a great place to dine!! Will certainly be returning to this establishment !!!

Ive eaten here on a number of occasions. It is a little more expensive than the usual pub lunch but food is superb, excellent portions, friendly staff & lovely decor. Latest meal was a small family 18th celebration, we had meals ranging from steak to burger to lamb hotpot. Starters from prawns to chicken wings. Everyone had empty plates! 9.5 out of 10. It is a little bit expensive but for a special occasion & if you want a more informal atmosphere with family it ticks all the boxes.
