Visited Smithills Coaching house many times over the yearrs and had some very good times there...The food was always lovely and we have never had any complaints about the place...It was full of character and the staff were always very helpful.....Suh a mistake closing it down...really sad to see it gone....

what ajoke this place is the absolute pits from the tired food to drab decor possibly the worst restaurant i have ever eaten in this place takes english dining back to the 1980s just chronic the mackerel pate tasted off and the main course a steak pudding the size of afootball with hard inedible pastry a bland filling arrived with frozen undercooked chips how lazy can you get make yuor own chips

I went to Smithills for my birthday meal in January '11, and the whole experience was wonderful. The food was delicious, plentiful and perfectly cooked. The atmosphere was lovely and the staff were so pleasant and helpful. I had a fantastic evening and would wholeheartedly recommend Smithills to everyone.

Had a great steak in Smithills last week during lunch time. Very friendly staff with good service. Great building with lots of character. I would recommend.

I took my mother to Smithalls on Mothers day hoping for a special lunch. Very poor presentation of food, over use of tasteless gravy, and my mum's apple pie was drowned in custard. We searched for the toilet for the disabled, to be told that it was in the 'Gents' (we are both female) The toilet was disgusting--smelled terrible, and there wasn't enough room to swing the proverbial cat! Won't be coming back.

If you think anything of the food that you eat, stay well clear of this place. Nice location and building but the food is simply dreadful!
