This was the first time we had visited this restaurant and what a brilliant birthday meal we enjoyed. Staff were so friendly ,service so attentive and the food perfect. We will certainly return in the near future

I was very wary of this place as i had heard so many bad things about it, but when i read the reviews i thought i would give the place a chance but now wish i hadn't. I invited my family to come and join me for a birthday meal, the food was very bland and it seems they could not cope with a large number of orders as they were very unorganised. We had all ordered starters and mains, the waiters then sang happy birthday to me with my cake which a family member had bought but to my surprise the manager would not let me cut the cake and share it out. We had spent a lot of money in this restaurant and all the manager could say was i don't want to loose money on my deserts, well let me tell you not a one of us bought desserts, after this we left in amazement we will never go to this place again

What a pleasant surprise. I'd heard that the sottovento was Ok but very expensive. To my delight the food was more Ok it was great & the price very reasonable. Decor very nice, comfortable & warm. Nice bar area with seating. Bar prices reasonable for a restaurant. Staff attentive & friendly. The owner is a very welcoming & warm guy. Thanks Hakan & staff for a great experiance. See you soon. They also do cabaret nights £ courses £22=95.

My husband and I celebrated our 17th wedding anniversary at Sotto Vento on 3rd September 2011. We had planned the evening there as we had enjoyed the food immensely on our previous visits. We arrived a good few minutes early and were seated in the bar area, the hostess was very friendly. Once seated, a waiter came to take our order and told us that some good friends of ours had rung the restaurant and arranged with them for us to be able to order drinks on them to celebrate our anniversary, which made our evening even more special. The food was superb, the service was excellent and the evening was a total success. Can't wait to book another evening there!

We visited Sottovento this weekend for the first time since it changed hands. We were disappointed. The food was average (I could have prepared food of a similar standard at home). When I go out for a meal and pay £14/£15 for a main course I expect it to be of a higher standard. The starters were slow to arrive (maybe in the hope we would drink more wine) and although they were hot they were nothing special. My husband had sirloin steak next and it looked more like a thin frying steak. It certainly wasn't sirloin, and was tough. My sea bass was also a let down and tasted more of the sauce than the fresh fish I was expecting. Service was slow all night although not awful. The only positive was the pudding (sticky toffee) and the owner/manager was very pleasant and welcoming. The only reason we didn't complain was because we were treated to the meal by a relative and we didn't want to offend. We will eat at the Milan next time - food is of a far higher quality.

I visited Sottovento for the first time since it changed hands on 18th June 2011 for my hen night. The food was delicious, the service excellent and the atmosphere just right. The personal attention we received was perfect - attentive, but not overly so. The staff brought me a profiterole with a candle in to celebrate my impending wedding and when we stated to the new owner how pleased we were with the meal and the whole evening and that we would all leave him a lovely review, he brought our party free liqueurs! A thoroughly enjoyable evening was had by the whole party and we have all stated that we would revisit on an individual basis. Highly recommended!

I visited Sottovento on late Sunday afternoon, just as they opened, with my partner and our 3 year old son. I had rather mixed first impressions as we were not greeted immediately and once we'd become settled at the table we were 'overwhelmed' with attention from four different people, including the owner.
The place wasn't as busy as we had expected it to be but then I suppose it was early. This afforded us the chance to relax and to enjoy the background music whilst perusing the extensive menu over a glass of wine and a 'mezzo mezzo' (garlic bread with cheese on one half & tomato on the other).
The owner who described himself initially of Mediterranean descent attended personally to our table and ensured that my partner's specific preferences for her main course were catered to.
Our starters, piping hot soup of the day, and entrees were delicious and without fault. When my son asked me to take him to the bathroom just as my main course was served the plate was quickly taken away and was equally quickly returned to the table when I was seated again. There was no discernible deterioration in the tagliatella casanova that I had ordered.
Although our son had been very well behaved he did become restless and took himself off to sit on the comfortable sofas in the adjacent bar area which fortunately was empty as all diners were on the other side of the restaurant. I was pleased to see that the owner adopts a family-friendly approach to his restaurant and this to me is undoubtedly a bonus to the superb food that we enjoyed.

Called for a meal last night. Our first visit since it changed hands. On entry we were ushered straight to our table without a chance to relax and have a drink at the bar whilst scanning the menu. When we received the menu the wine list was vary limited with no descriptions of any of the wines.
That's the negatives over with. The staff were very friendly and polite and the food was prompt and delicious, My fillet steak was cooked just to my liking and the portions were just right, but the biggest surprise of the night was the bill. I have never had food and service of this quality for such a reasonable price. It looks like the new owners are a young couple trying to make a go of it. I wish them every success.
Will I be going back?
I've already booked!

Sottovento has changed hands, but for the better! The menu is much better now. The staff can't do enough for you. There's no rush and the atmosphere is relaxed.

We have tried Sottovento on a few occasions but heard that it was now under new management. We have visited Sottovento again and we were not disappointed, food was fantastic, service excellent and we would recommend to anyone. We will definitely be visiting again.
