A large – and filthy – party had spent the morning quad-biking at the nearby Rookin House Activity Centre so I don’t think it was ideal that we all rocked up unannounced for a drink and a late lunch. That said, the staff coped admirably sorting out drinks for us all and then large plates of mixed sandwiches and chips which were it the spot perfectly. The pub is just off the main A66 Penrith-Keswick road and ideal for a quick drink or meal.

We visited on 24/10/09 at 6pm. Bar was just staring to fill up. Nobody was attending the restaurant desk. After a short wait - we were seated. Food was quick to come out. Food was nothing special -however the prices were. Service was impersonal. Prices too high. Seems to be a popular spot. Car park is always full. Good selection of lagers / beers and wines.

I had the misfortune to visit this place in May 2008. The bar service was poor . The beer was flat We only had bar meals ie two sandwiches and small a portion of chips which cost £2.45. The pub owners in Cumbria think they can rip off passing motorists without them batting an eyelid. Think again
