Have been going to the Spread Eagle since 1977 with family and friends and have never been disappointed.

Pre walk drinks, stunning walk in the beautiful lancashire countrryside and a wonderful meal to match afterwards. Would recommend the Spread Eagle at Sawley.

We are regulars at The Spread Eagle and the food is always excellent - must say though that Sunday's meal was the best ever. Do try the game casserole if it's on the menu!

Spent a fab night at the Spread last week. Cosy bar with real ale, the nicest restaurant I have been in, food was fabulous, the room was lovely, the setting was lovely,a guy played acoustic guitar and sang while we finished off a great bottle of wine, I was in heaven. Sawley Abbey 3 minutes walk away.

Went recently as a party of 6 adults & 2 children could not fault the presentation or quality of the food but, when you are paying £16 for a salmon fillet and that's all that come and with no vegetables or potatoes which are extra then it's pricey. Refer to the main menu regarding vegetables & potatoes as it wasn't on the specials menu.
Very Disappointed
Having read numerous good reports,I decided to visit the Spread Eagle for Lunch. However, whilst the interior and staff was quite pleasant, I'm afraid the food was disappointing.Additionally, for a lunchtime menu it was well overpriced, especially when most reputable eating places reduce prices for their lunchtime menu.
All in all, basically it's a pub playing at being a being a top class restaurant.
Needless to say in this respect, it fails quite badly.

7/3/09 - After reading about the refurb and review in MEN we decided we would give The Spread Eagle a try. Pleasant place with a friendly welcome, good service apart from staff not wanting to clear used glasses from our dining table. Food was relatively tasty (if a little on the small portion side). I was disappointed when I realised that the "2 No. King Prawns" in my King Prawn & Prawn Cocktail had been cut into thirds! never come across this before.. another grumble would be the undercooked "large" chips. Sadly we won't be going out of our way to visit again.

Following a recent revamp and new ownership the Spread is a scenic and pleasant place to enjoy good food. Modern British cooking with old favorites such as fish & chips etc on the main menu and a special menu (called the Weather Report) with some slightly more adventurous dishes. Recently reviewed and recommended by the Manchester Evening News the same menu is available in the pleasant bar and the dining room.

My husband and I have been regular diners at the Spread Eagle for over 11 years now and have found nowhere that comes anywhere near it's standard. The food is always first class and the staff are always so pleasant and respectful, which means a lot these days! We really do enjoy coming and recommend The Spread Eagle to all our friends.
