I'd heard great reviews about this restaurant so booked A table for 10 people for my boyfriends birthday.
To be fair the food was extremely good, no complaints there, but the service was not at all what you would expect from from a top restaurant...
We had to wait a long time for our drinks and when they did eventually come our table was left cluttered with empty glasses. Also when we had finished our food we were left with empty plates which after a while we began to pile up ourselves.
When I told the waiter we only had half of our drinks order he did not apologise and was very blunt.
We had to ask for the desert menu and in the end we didn't bother as it took that long to place our order.
I was embarrassed as my guest were visiting from out of town and I wanted to treat them to a very special night out in liverpool....Unfortunately they did not get that here...
Very disappointing...

Firstly, The food was cold when it finally arrived at 11pm, having been seated for two hours. They had a complete disregard for any allergies as one of my colleagues has wheat allergy and was given pasta, despite explaining this to them. The pasta was taken away and a single carrot was returned in its place. After waiting so long for the food it was poor in standard and not what you would expect for £29.95 per head. Our main concern was the amount of people that were crammed into the venue, despite being told a maximum of 90 people there was a lot more than that, 70 people dining on the main seating and then 70 waiting to dine, added to which the amount of people who were just at the bar. Having spoken to other people this was the main course of concern for everyone – I have reported this problem to the fire service, because upon entering were advised by the hostess to take an alternative route to get into the venue because of the amount of people at the bar, which causes concern of how you would get out?I personally would never visit this venue again, because when speaking to the manager on the evening he did offer any explanation or way of resolving this situation. It was awful and a lady fell downstairs due to traffic on those stairs. Avoid this place for your safety.

We have visited the St John Restaurant many times and the food is always excellent, staff are always courteous and it is a great base to explore attractions around Liverpool. Highly recommended and well done for offering a free wifi connection.

The food is fab in here, takes a bit longer to be served, but you know everything is cooked from scratch even the deserts. No microwave rubbish in here. Lovely surroundings to go with your meal

On Saturday 18 February 2006, my wife and I ate here for a post valentines meal. The food was absolutely fantastic. I would go as far to say one of the best meals I have ever eaten in Liverpool and the service was second to none. The restaurant is situated on a slightly raised level to that of the bar area and a vocal / guitar act played at a comfortable volume in the corner of the bar area. (This was no cheesy social club act - but a talented, confident musician at work) We both chose a soup to start. The soup was full of flavour, thick in texture, piping hot and a good sized bowlful (approx £4) and we followed this with a fillet of beef (£19.95 each). The beef was cooked to perfection and the knife simply glided through the meat. The beef came with mushroom and a small stack of deauphinoise potatoes - which were also really tasty, it was however necessary to order a side, to ensure the meal was fulfilling!! I opted for a side salad and my wife opted for the seasonal vegetables. The salad was crisp and light with a pleasant dressing and the seasonal vegetables were crisp and crunchy, yet nice and hot. We washed down our meal with a bottle of Rose (Zinfandel) which cost approx £15 yet unfortunately we had no room for a dessert! (The people on the table next to us however appeared to thoroughly enjoy theirs!) All in all - if you want to impress, or you have a special occasion that you wish to celebrate - Opt for St John Restaurant at the Sir Thomas Hotel. You will not be disappointed. Thank you for a fantastic meal.

Not eaten here yet, we have only been in for drinks but this place is superb. Service is friendly but not obtrusive. The sofas are so so so comfortable, you could fall asleep in them - and from all reports the food is great too.

This restaurant is amazing, the service was second to none. I would most definitely recommend this restaurant. The bar is also great although a little pricey. At weekends you will find a live band on although not too loud which is a welcome when dining out.
