Established in 1962, the Taj Mahal is Birmingham city centre's oldest restaurant, a family run business for more than half a century. It's also the place to go if you're feeling peckish late at night or early in the morning as it's open until 12.30am weekdays and 2.30am at weekends, 365 days a year. The 42-cover restaurant opens at 6pm every evening and as well as the extensive a la carte menu there are weekly-changing specials and a takeaway menu. House specialities include dishes like Shahi Hurma, chicken or lamb cooked in a sweet and sour mild sauce of ground almonds, raisins, coconut, butter and exotic spices, Nepalese Dansak, chicken or lamb marinated with yoghurt, then simmered in fresh cream, lentils, spring onions, lemon, coriander and ground chillies and the popular Bangladeshi dish Telapia Bhuna, Pan-fried telapia steak, cooked with fresh herbs and spices and garnished with coriander.
