I recently went for a meal at the Tannin Level and found it very disappointing having heard great things. The woman who appeared to be head of front of house was faultlessly friendly and charming, however i found some other members of staff to be far too snooty (imagine a sketch show french waiter).
The menu reads beautifully and I expected great things, despite the idiotic spiel at the beginning- a run down of the restaurants domestic affairs which would be fine for a country pub but would probably still leave me questioning why I need to know the name of the KP.
The fish i received was over cooked and the accompanying vegetables were dried out, i would really not be surprised to find that both were cooked in a microwave, and i was not shocked to see the chef walking through the restaurant twice as he had obviously not spent a great deal of time of my food.
As is apparent from the other reviews, i may have caught the restaurant on an off day, as i can not see how such sterling reviews could have been mustered if the place was consistently this bad. Good luck to all it's future diners is all i can say, I'll be leaving it for a few years before take two (hopefully there will be a new chef by then!).

Possibly the best eatery in Harrogate. I've tried all the other "well recommended" and "snobberised" restaurants in the town and nowhere comes close to friendly, personal, high quality and relaxed dining with a superb emphasis on quality than the Tannin level.
The range of dishes are superb, they have wines to match every course, plus a a fantastic selection of curio wines, and a real focus on making your dining experience exactly that.
If I was to chose anywhere within North Yorkshire to eat, I'd be here every evening...
5 stars, and a pat on the back to the owners, chefs and staff that make this restaurant the place to be...

Good: Reasonable and sincere wine list. Menu that shows great potential if cooked properly.
Bad: What arrived at our table on a Thursday evening was not cooked with passion. Salmon was slightly over done, the bed of noodles over cooked to resemble a portion of supernoodles. Likewise my wild boar was dry and the roast potato cake that came with it slightly bland and pointless.
As a restaurant that one assumes is amongst the best in Harrogate it needs to pull it's socks up in the kitchen if it wants to continue charging the prices it does.

As a regular customer of the Tannin Level in Harrogate, I am delighted to inform you that they are now serving all types of coffee. So now not only is it the best place to eat in Harrogate, you can top it all off with a wonderful espresso. Try out the lunch & early bird menu - food of that quality cannot be beaten on value!

great place, food and service tip top, but no decent coffee? why oh why would a good restaurant like this not sell espresso?

My Girlfriend and I visited the restaurant last weekend and had an exceptional meal. My girlfriend even wanted to write a note to the staff and the chef to say how much she enjoyed her food!
We had 2 of the specials which seem to change on a regular basis. Mussels to start and I had the rack of lamb for my main.
The wine selection is the best around and the waiting staff are very knowledgeable about the wine selection.
The service was also brilliant, we had staff waiting on out every need but without pestering.
Would highly recommend a visit here to anyone who likes fine food and fine wine at a very reasonable price.

This a really good brasserie with very good food and stylish service. My Salmon was a brave dish indeed, but executed perfectly, with authentic tasting home made naan bread! My partners Chicken was equally stunning. 2 decent puds and a great bottle of Merlot rounded off a lovely evening.....but wheres the coffee machine? I was denied my fix of espresso! Somebody buy them one!!

Went to The Tannin Level last night and I was very surprised! The food was perfect and the wine list exceptional. I will be frequenting the restaurant now as its recently become a new entry into my top 10 places to eat in the country! The staff are great too, particularly Victoria. Every restaurant needs a front of house like her.

Having heard that the Tannin Level had been recently taken over I thought it prudent to "try out" the new regime. What I found surprised me as this restaurant is now in my humble opinion the best place to eat in Harrogate. The food was gorgeous, the staff expert and the ambience great. I noted the place need a touch of paint but the manager Victoria informed me that a renovation was due in the coming weeks. Great place to eat!
