I went here following the recommendation from a friend and I was expecting to be disappointed given his over-the-top ravings. Well, I wasn't. The food is probably the best I've tasted in the area - and I must have been to every restaurant for 25 miles around! The restaurant is upstairs from the pub and is nicely decorated with friendly (if young) staff. Get in before 7 and there is an early bird menu (basically allowing you to pick 3 courses from the a la carte for £16.95). Each course was absolutely superb and speedily brought to our table. I had scallops for starters (served on black pudding and minted pea) followed by pork in bacon, with appropriate trimmings, polished off with cheescake and ice cream. My Mrs had red mullet to begin, followed by brie stuffed Goosnargh chicken and sticky toffee pudding. My mouth is watering again! Total price including a beer and a large glass of white was under £40 on a Saturday night! I can't praise it enough. Nothing pretentious, no airs and graces, just a nice room with lovely food. We finished off with a pint in the pub. Nice enough but lacking a 'homely feel' (and the colour choice for the walls was a little suspect ...). That said, don't go for the pub - go for the restaurant. You'll be raving about it too!

No.Not at all.I visited for the first time Friday with my partner after reading the reviews.I was led to believe this is a fine dining restaurant.Well in all my yrs of eating out this was a first for me it definitely is not.Never had french onion soup like onion gravy with some sort of powdered packet stock. A pie which looked like it had been dropped on the floor in a dish my gran would leave her teeth in !! Vinegar bottle filthy .Never Never again too expensive too dirty

Just had a really good lunch at The Beacon at Dalton. It is a Pub downstairs and a restaurant upstairs. We have been a few times before and in both parts the food is superb. Before we looked at the menu, we asked if they did beef curry. They had chicken curry on the menu but they immediately said there was no problem at all in changing it so we both had beef curry. Afterwards I had pear poached in Campari garnished with a raspberry juice and clotted cream and my husband had Parkin Cake with Mrs Dowson's ice cream, both were very well presented, as was the curry which came with rice, poppadoms and mango chutney. The price was very reasonable and service was very good. 10/10
