About The Belle Vue

The Belle Vue at Papcastle, near Cockermouth, has recently re-opened under new ownership. The village pub sits at the heart of the community and you can expect a farm-to-table ethos here with generous portions of home-cooked food. The pub is open for lunch and dinner seven days a week and whether you're looking for classic British pub fare or more innovative creations, there’s something on the menu to suit all tastes. They even have their own farm where they rear Rare Breed Tamworth pigs. As well as the main menu, which is available lunch and dinner, there is a light bites lunch menu, a kids menu and a weekly changing Sunday menu. The Belle Vue also has outdoor seating which comes into its own during the warmer months and regular community events and live music throughout the year.

We arrived at 7:30pm to be told that there was no beef burgers, gammon and the pie had changed. So there was pretty much nothing left on the menu to have. So we left. Also the guy ignored use when we first arrived and carried on doing something on the computer screen, left use waiting, standing there feeling a bit uncomfortable till he finally said hi. All he had to say was Hi, sorry I’ll be with you in a minute, just need to finish something off.

The food was delicious. Really good portions and everyone was happy with their choices. The beef pie, Lamb Henry and Cumberland Sausage and Mash were great! There was one staff member on the night we visited and she did a great job, running the bar and serving the table. Thank you we will be back.

Meal fine but I wasn’t fond of the ‘proper’ chips. Not at all appealing to look at. I prefer a nice golden chip. Not a lover of the taste either.

We were very pleased with our meal at the Belle Vue. The atmosphere was warm and friendly, and the staff were welcoming. We all had the two course Festive lunch and it was excellent, plenty of it and very well presented ( and above all, very tasty!) We certainly will return. Thank you
