We visited The Bon after my father had recommended it to us. Well its absolutely amazing to find a restaurant of this class so near to home. The food is incredible. I had the roast belly pork and the crackling was perfect my husband had the rack of lamb and that too was fabulous. We went for lunch last week with my mother in law and her friend and the lunch menu was excellent too. I cant recommend this restaurant highly enough - we will be back!

We enjoyed and amazing night at the bon viveur, had some friends staying over and wanted them to have a fantastic evening lovely food, lovely wine and a great atmosphere. The Bon lived up to all of these. It never lets us down and feel that we should shout from the roof tops have fab it is. In fact im going to book for my birthday next month which if you ring and book the management can sort you taxi's out too which takes the total hassle out of your night. All round fantastic.

What a disappointment - all the things I loved about this restaurant have gone now that Yogi and Luigi are no longer there. There was a dirty glass on our table when we were seated which I had to remove, we had to ask for our ordered wine after the starters were served, we had to ask for steak knives after our main course was served, the waitress asked 'do you want any more wine pouring' after my husband had just refilled our glasses, the lobster thermador (an extra £5) was a disappointment - it really is a shame because the meal cost £90 for 2 and wasn't worth it. We won't be back and we will warn our friends of the changes too!

I just wanted to tell you that we hadn't been to the Bon Viveur for some 13 years but the meal we had this week was one of the best we've tasted in nearly 40 years of eating out. Everything was brilliant:- from the wine (primitivo) to the starters (chicken livers) to the main course (fillet steak and lobster thermidor) and dessert. We have never experienced such high standards through every course. Congratulations!

My wife and I made the 50 mile trip to Bon Viveur after it was recommended to us by a friend. Well worth the trip! The food is excellent, it arrives hot and there is plenty of it. I just wished I lived closer..... This place is a must visit for all those who enjoy good food at a good price.

My wife and I visited the Bon Viveur on 18/04/2008 after quite a long break.
I have to say the food was absolutely fabulous, the atmosphere great and the service even better, I would thoroughly recommend this old restaurant. It has been refurbished well but still kept all its charm. We will certainly hurry back

Our family has been dining at the Bon Viveur for nearly 30years and have always enjoyed a very personal and consistently good dining experience. However- recently the restaurant has changed hands. No longer is the dining experience personal, and no longer are the meals good. There are no crisps on the table as you arrive, and the salad on the table is missing a few ingredients. Not only is that it obviously prepared hours before opening as it is quite wilted by the time you sit down for the meal. The new menu is more of a brasserie menu, and although the new courses sound appetising they are clumsily executed. Comments our party made on our last visit during the starters and main courses were either over salted or completely insipid. After a dis-satisfactory meal we received no apology only a flippant comment by one of the staff which was "I tasted it and thought it was fine". In summary, the Bonviveur is not what it used to be a local pub can provide a more welcoming and better cooked meal at a fraction of the price..

I keep finding better restaurants and better food than the Bon Viveur but once you've recommended them to a few people, they seem to loose it. The Bon Viveur is still an excellent restaurant with a very personal touch and is the only one I will confidently recommend. And compared with some of the places pretending to be high standards, it's cheap as chips.

We have been going to the Bon Viveur for the past 15 years on & off for special occasions. We have never been let down by either the food or the staff. The choice of food and wines are excellent as is the welcome. They make you feel special without being smothered.
