Visited on Sunday July 2012 for a roast dinner. Paid under a tenner and as soon as it arrived you could see that the quality was way up there. Fantastic beef (topside), brilliantly cooked, generously carved, accompanied by equally high quality roast spuds (very well done, with goose fat?) thinly-sliced and perfectly roasted carrots and parsnips and some slightly less good beans and cabbage. But this is nit-picking.... Outstanding cooking at a ridiculously low price. Tried to tell the owner how wonderful her provision was, but I've from deepest Yorkshire and she plainly could only decipher every other word I was saying so I thought I'd post a quick review instead. In Leek for a day and want to eat, go to The Cock. In a world where daytrippers get exploited mercilessly, it's so so nice to get such quality and such value. Thanks folks. Appreciated.

a good albeit simple menu is always a sign of freshly prepared`homecooked`food. No Brake bros, scampi, plaice are served here.Good wholesome food at lunchtime.Higher quality at night, try the fish in beer batter almost Japanese tempura it is so light crunchy and crisp.Bookings are strongly recommended at weekend evenings and the demand on Sunday lunch servings is high.
A good choice of 5 cask ales on the evening of my visit, decent french wine list as well.
