Having built up a strong and loyal following of discerning diners at The Vanilla Pod in Torquay, Ian and Tracey Nixon moved the restaurant to The Cridford Inn in the picturesque village of Trusham, just outside Exeter in the Teign Valley. The building itself is one of the few remaining Devon Longhouses and dates back to the 14th century. They are still running the inn as a pub with overnight accommodation. A lovely space with original features including a mosaic date stone that lights up the centre of the floor. Elegantly reworked with coordinating linen and comfortable chocolate and cream leather chairs, the room is atmospheric and intimate. Come here for Ian’s accomplished cooking, with dishes prepared using the best local ingredients. Exmoor Venison, aged traceable Devon beef, Lamb from the South Hams and fresh fish and seafood from Brixham are painstakingly turned into modern British dishes. Desserts are legendary including Ian’s signature Vanilla Pod chocolate cup. Sunday lunch is a winner at £13.95 for three courses or two courses at £11.95. The rooms upstairs ensure that you can really make a night of it or use The Cridford Inn as a base whilst discovering the surrounding country.
