The Egg is lovely, there is no other word.
The trek up the stairs is so worth and builds up an appetite for the delicious food there.
The space is amazing, like the coolest possible loft apartment and it usually has a really nice buzz about it, lots of people, good music and the interesting artwork hung on the walls.
The smell of food can make the strictest dieter crumble and the soups are usually fantastic served with doorstop bread, as is the cheese on toast. As my friend and I were saying, we'd never usually order salad anywhere but we'd make an exception for their salads because they're so darn nice.
Get your bum down there now and enjoy some soul warming soup, bean burgers, cheese on toast, garlic bread and salads.

Have we all been to the same restaurant?!! I personally found the food pretty poor, the menu unexciting and the decor scruffy. I am sick of the "put up with any old food" vegetarian mentality which allows places like this to serve up ill conceived and unexciting menu's to the cities over-accepting veggies.
I had one of the specials, 'gumbo', this proved to be bland and starchy and the side salad that it was served with was far from fresh.
WE DON'T HAVE TO EAT BLAND STEWS ALL THE TIME!!! The egg really would benefit travelling to Brighton to sample vegetarian fayre from the country's finest.

The Egg Café has a mega relaxed atmo in unpretentious surrounds and has a long history of plenty of vegan vegetarian options. There are some simple things about The Egg that will always make it popular:-
* Long open hours 7 days a week
* A menu that has the offerings for vegan vegetarians clearly labelled - no wasting time asking what is and what isn’t vegan if that is your eating persuasion
* Central location
Lacto and ovo veggies are also catered for.
I did a quick count and I reckon there is approx 30 food items on the menu board. Approx 17 of these appears to be vegan veggie friendly. Mega value for money - big portions at very reasonable prices (e.g. a fiver for a main course, a couple of quid for a bowl of soup). I personally can’t recommend the set menu; it’s remarkable value for money but it’s just too much to eat and could easily feed 2 people. I had a go at it once and afterwards I was so full I thought I was about to explode - never again. If you like to eat huge then the set menu is for you.
The Egg is located close to both Central and Lime St stations for any visitors to the city. Compared with the Green Fish Cafe (just round the corner) The Egg attracts a crowd that is generally younger and a bit more alternative and with a bigger percentage of students.
The Egg has expanded and now has extra seating upstairs. Take your pick from the mix of long communal type tables or the smaller tables for 4 that The Egg has always offered.
Suggested improvements:-
I'd personally prefer if they didn't use the microwave to heat some of the food.
Overall:-
The Egg is something of a vegetarian icon in Liverpool. If you are in central Liverpool the long opening hours of this café are just superb. The menu content and labelling make it a clear statement that if you are a vegan veggie then you are more than welcome at The Egg.

Can say it all in one word Brilliant ... but being a woman I'll add some more words too!
The atmosphere here was so relaxing that I managed to forget all the stress of my life as I enjoyed a wonderful VEGAN meal .... (I had despaired of ever finding a satisfactory restaurant for these). Laid back for even the oldest hippie. Loved it.

The egg is the best place in the world (well almost.) amazing food. ah the soups. great atmosphere. very relaxed. u can just sit there and chill for how long as you want and never feel in the way. once we sat there for 7 hours! managed to squeeze in lunch, coffee, cake, a salad and a bottle of wine(that u bring urself).everyone loves the egg, vegetarian or not. whats amazing is that everyone comes there. Old couples, families, students, 15 year olds, buisness men. but then again the food is top!

The Egg is a great place if you're looking for wholesome, nutritious food in laid back, basic surroundings. It has a very bohemian feel which adds to its charm. Prices are average/modest and generally good value for money. I've had lunch there a few times and the home made soups are well made, nutritious and fairly priced. I'd recommend The Egg and I'm a fairly hard to please individual when it comes to cafes.

I cannot believe that I've spent several years in Liverpool without finding The Egg. It's the sort of place I've always been looking for. Good cheap food, laid back, a wonderful ambience - definitely one-of-a-kind. Highly recommended.

My all-time favourite veggie/vegan cafe. Great selection of cheap & delicious food including yummy vegan puds.... Totally chilled out by day - u can go in on your own, read a book or paper while u eat lunch and feel completely at ease... by night the candles come out & the atmosphere is fab! I've had every birthday & other significant celebration there for years the food appeals to everyone even the carnivores among my mates, & the byo wine keeps it amazingly cheap! 10/10
Egg Vegetarian Restaurant
There is an excellent selection of vegetarian and vegan food including salads and hot dishes. The tea selection is great and you can have soya milk shakes even. they do a nice Veggie Sunday roast. There is smoking and non smoking areas and there are always interesting art exhibits. The Egg is currently under renovation but business continues as usual.
