We visited The Fisherman's Retreat in Sunday to celebrate my cousins golden wedding anniversary. There were 10 of us booked under the name of Isherwood. I would like to say how impressed we all were with the choice, presentation and quality of the food.It was our first visit. The venue was lovely with exceptional views from the windows of the dining room.

Unfortunately the Fisherman's retreat was not as good as I expected. I found the food to be very overpriced and the staff often ignored our party. I was considering it as a wedding venue but have reconsidered given my recent experience. I was also put off as a wedding venue by the outside, its in such a lovely position but has not been landscaped at all and there would be nowhere suitable for photos. Great shame

This place is amazing. You may have to wait a while if its busy but the food is top quality and fresh. The desserts are too much for one person! The view fantastic from the restaurant window as well. Well worth travelling to. Not expensive and generous helpings. Homemade pies and great fish. We travelled a fair way to try it and were not disappointed. We'll be regulars.

12 months ago, I did not know the existence of The Fisherman's Retreat. Now, I'll tell anyone who'll listen how absolutely brilliant the restaurant is. We recently had a simple civil registry wedding in Bury and as such started researching restaurants in the area for an intimate lunch for 15 people. This is when we stumbled across this restaurant. We firstly went to check the place out on a Sunday and were so impressed with the food, I told my husband this is where I wanted to have our lunch. We spoke to the owner's son and he couldn't do enough for us. We had our wedding lunch two weeks later and it was just superb. They set up a private area for us and decorated the tables beautifully. We enjoyed a champagne reception outside in the sun for a little bit. All our guests were so impressed with the food and service.
We have since returned several times, taking our guests and everytime the food is just superb. We plan to have another party during Christmas.
Keeping in mind that we have to travel over 40 minutes to get to this restaurant, its well worth it!

We visited the Fishermans Retreat last week for a celebratory family meal and had a wonderful evening. Fabulous tasty food and really good service from all the staff. Can heartily recommend the steak, red wine and mushroom pie - delicious and this is one of the only places I know where you don't get pale frozen chips. These are real (pity about the calories)!

We went to the restaurant twice last week! Its that good. The food is excellent, everything is fresh and its great that most of it is sourced on site. I had a few choices from the specials board, seafood chowder followed by rump steak with a mushroom and tarragon sauce. My boyfriend had the steak which hes claimed as the best hes had, quite a statement. The portions are extremely big so we shared a creme brulee, just lovely but the winner was the homemade shortbread with it. I wish they sold packets of the stuff!

We visited this restaurant last week for the first time. It took about 40 mins to drive there and boy was it worth it. Homemade oxtail soup for starters was to die for. We had the mixed grill between 2 of us (there would have been enough to feed 4) everything was perfect. Could not be faulted. Yes we did have to wait a while between courses, but that was pointed out on the menu and the wait was worth it. If we wanted fast food or were born without taste buds we'd have gone to Macdonalds.

we have now frequented this venue on numerous occasions and although we have visited many restaurants this is my favourite. Initially on perusing the menu for the first time it seems expensive however i went for the cheapest cut of steak a 10oz rump at approx £13 (£16.50 with a lancashire cheese & bacon sauce) and it was unusually tender for rump. All the food is home made although surprisingly the onion rings are unfortunately of the frozen, buy in type. I dont see the need to pay for the considerably more expensive steaks as the quality is exceptional. This place is A1 for service & is very relaxing & cosy. If you have a healthy appetite this is the place to go.

I visited this place on a Saturday afternoon. After thinking to myself where can I go for a drink where there is no noise, traffic or drunken louts and I remembered passing the sign for the Fisherman’s Retreat. Upon arrival the girls were very friendly and accommodating. After soaking up the sun in a breathtaking setting we went inside for a meal. The food was delicious. I had a ham sandwich (on homemade bread)and the bakewell tart for afters - I don’t think I ate for a week afterwards - the desserts are a definite must. Also its nice to see a place with a fabulous wine list and a bar man who knows how to make a proper Gin & Tonic. And can I just say in reply to Ray - real mince will taste tough compared to the supermarket crap/mush im sure your used to!! Keep up the good work.

I personally don? see what the fuss is with this place, yes you know where the steak comes from but it isn? the best tasting steak around and the price they charge is very expensive. I just think they like to charm people with the wonderful views and location and the tale of were everything comes from and for that privilege they charge you a lot more. The veg and salad is very good but the chips taste like overdone crisps and they charge you near six pounds for a dessert the beer is expensive to but kept well. Ive had the sirloin the mix grill and chilli con carne, the grill was the only one of note but for 35 pounds it should be. My partner had chilli and it just tasted of tough mince in canned tomato's. The place is lovely to visit and have a walk round and a pint maybe or they have a fantastic selection of the best whiskeys there is but although its always good to know where the food comes from it just seems an excuse to charge a lot more. There? smaller establishments that are doing the same thing for cheaper and just as good quality and i when you see the owner he just stands at the till with a pound signs in his eyes and a smug look on his face.
