We booked the George Inn on Saturday the 2nd of May for my fathers 63rd birthday after being told that it had a nice setting on the river Avon. This turned out to be a huge mistake. Upon being seated we found that we hadn't been given any menu's. After waiting 15 minutes, I thought I had better go and ask for some. When I finally found a waitress she simply refused to believe this and came over to the table to check. After realising that we didn’t in fact have any menu’s she passed the 5 of us 4 menus, one of which was missing the starter page.
Once we had ordered and waited around 30 minutes, 2 of the 5 starters arrived at the table, followed 10 minutes later by 2 of the main courses. Upon inquiring as to what was going on, we were told by a very rude waitress that all the meals were coming out together. After explaining that this wasn’t what we had requested an extremely surly waitress came over to check our order. It then came to light that they had in fact lost half or the original order. This wasn’t before she managed to be even ruder than the waitress that tried to bring the main courses out. To be fair to her, she did apologise.
Once we had reordered, we were left with another 30 minute wait for the other starters to arrive. When we finally received all the starters and had eaten them, the empty plates were left sitting on the table for just under an hour before being cleared. At this point we decided that the only option was to complain to the manager. Upon finding him he asked whether we had booked, we replied that we had. He then informed us that there was nothing he could do as they were very busy.
When the main course finally arrived it looked very much like they had simply reheated the 2 main courses that had been brought out earlier. One of which was a rather dry looking fish pie that for some reason contained blue cheese. Other than that the food was acceptable and we promptly paid the bill and went to leave where we found that the front door had been locked. I’m guessing this is because a few tables had got up and left without paying the bill. Who can blame them as it took us nearly three and a half hours to eat a starter and main course.
In addition I wouldn’t ordinarily mention such things but during the meal I needed to visit the toilet only to find that it contained neither toilet paper nor soap.
