A group of 9 lunched at The Kitchin - the eldest in their 70's and the youngest 9. We all thoroughly enjoyed the gastronomic experience. Staff were brilliant and attentive and the food was devine. We were not hurried despite being the last to arrive. Our 9 year old budding restaurant critic now aspires to visit The Kitchin on a regular basis and recommends it to everyone - as do we. Thanks Tom and staff for making it a very enjoyable experience for us all.

I was there for lunch with other members of my family, Wednesday, 22nd October. We had heard about The Kitchin and were absolutely delighted with the ambience, the service and of course the food. We all thoroughly enjoyed our courses. We started with an amuse bouche of game consome and went on to have starters of veal terrine and oysters. Delicious! Next came the mains of mallard or cod. Both beautifully done. We all enjoyed the taste explosions of the main ingredients plus the trimmings. The desserts of chocolate mousse and lemon torte were equally fantastic. Would definitely go back again. Tom Kitchin and his wife were there and were very friendly and welcoming! Great experience and not too expensive.

Last weekend me and a good friend of mine dressed in our best attire which included the finest silk scarfs hand crafted by poor gyspys given as a gift from the Prince Jumbaliya of Indonesia, hand picked jewelled slippers, and, to round our outfits off, a beautiful orange bindi placed on our unique monobrow. We entered the restaurant with grace and elegance, hoping to draw lots of attention, we were shocked by the waitresses lack of compliments but decided to let it fall. As we stepped onto the tables to proceed our cultural/religious pre-meal jig, we were rudely interrupted, and appalled to be asked to refrain from doing so. Being a strong believer of pre-meal bop, we continued for a few minutes, then, when asked politely to leave, which shocked us to the brim of our fine silk covered bodies. We think that your staff of The Kitchin are extremely rude and unprofessional and very prejudice and discriminative.

My Wife and I went to "the Kitchin" on saturday evening, we hadn't booked, but there had been a table that hadn't turned up, so they managed to get us in. Nice welcome, pleasant if a little monotone decor and good initial impression. The canapes were a nice touch as was the pea and mint soup. I had ordered Scallops with chorizo (which was great) and because the chorizo had arrived after the dish, they sent us portions of foie gras, with no charge!
The main courses of Lamb and Lobster were excellent.
We went on to order a dessert and glass of dessert wine, at this point my daughter and her friend arrived at the reception, my daughter asked if she could check if her parents were there, they allowed my daughter in and after she had seen us returned with her friend , as they approached the table a waiter pulled up two chairs, and then retracted them, apparently after a gesture from the head waiter. The girls left to wait outside, and my wife and I, being a little embarrassed followed, paid the bill and left.
A slightly embarrasing end to a lovely meal.

A taste of the high life at a price for everyone!
We were so pleasantly surprised at the whole experience when we went for lunch here. After seeing Tom on Great British Menu, i was intrigued... and was not disappointed at all. The staff, decor, menu and not forgetting the food was superb. It was wonderful watching the staff busy away in the kitchen and seeing that Tom was there made you feel that you were just as important as the next person and that everyone was getting the best he and his team could produce. Have mentioned it to all my family... we will definitely go again!

Having read two very favourable reviews recently, one in the Metro and the other in the Glasgow Herald we decided to venture off to The Kitchin and test the food for ourselves. It was a lovely, mid week summer evening and as we parked the car in the large car park by the restaurant we could see a few tables outside with guests enjoying a drink. We sat at one of the remaining tables and were quickly welcomed by a very pleasant waitress who took our drinks order and asked if we were dining. The menu looked excellent I chose hand dived scallops followed by lamb, my wife had Tartare of mackerel with quail egg and Crispy fillets of red mullet with fine ratatouille of vegetables and we both had to confess the flavour and presentation of everything surpassed anything we have experiences anywhere in Europe including several 3 Michelin star restaurants. This is a real chef's kitchen, fantastic food, superb atmosphere and delightful yet very professional service. Edinburgh is the richer for this addition and I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending 'the kitchin' to anyone.

A foody friend recommended The Kitchin so we went for lunch last week.
The staff were really good, friendly and attentive without being intrusive and obviously knew their stuff about both food and wine without being superior about it.
The food was frankly fantastic. I had chilled tomato soup with basil sorbet which was perfect but the halibut that followed was far and away the best bit of fish I have ever eaten, in fact probably the best thing I have ever eaten.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Kitchin, fantastic food, great atmosphere (love the wine cabinets) and staff. A very welcome addition to Edinburgh's top restaurants.
