I ate at the Monro last week and was amazed at the quality of the food and the incredibly attentive staff. I can thoroughly recommend it as what you pay at some higher end places just does not compare. Am going again for the roast on Mothers Day and I can't wait as I'm intolerant to additives and the chefs don't put anything in their food that shouldn't be there. So I will be able to enjoy a totally chilled afternoon with my family. I'm hoping its warm enough for the beer garden, it truly is a little gem.

I visited the Monro with my husband on 30 December for their 2 course Early Bird special which is now £13.50. I have been there on two previous occasions for lunch when the food and service was excellent. However, this visit was disappointing. We were quickly shown to a table by the door and given menus. I ordered a bottle of white rioja. My order was taken but then the waitress returned and informed me they had sold out. Not a good start. I chose another bottle. We ordered our food and soon realised that we were not warming up. I asked the waitress if we could be moved somewhere warmer and she said they had been having problems with the heating but it was all sorted now and it should start to warm up. Unfortunately it did not. I went to inspect a nearby radiator which was stone cold. I pointed this out to a waitress and she moved us to a table nearer the centre of the room. All around us diners were sat in coats and scarves looking chilly. The food was delicious. We shared a starter of seafood linguine and mains of seabass and tbone steak. We then sat with empty plates for more than 20 minutes as staff whizzed by us and ignored our attempts to gain eye contact. I eventually managed to stop a waiter and asked him to clear our plates. We shared a dessert of sticky toffee pudding, again delicious. When we were given the bill, I mentioned the lack of heating to the waitress and also the poor service. She did apologise saying they had staffing issues and said she hoped i would return. I hope so too.

Me and my wife sampled the super Christmas menu Saturday 18th December and found it totally spot on.
My wife chose mushroom risotto followed by the turkey meal with goose fat roasted potatoes (mouth watering) and all the trimmings then baileys cheesecake -
Washed down with a nice bottle of merlot.
I chose the home made chicken liver pate with crusty bread with side of caramelised onions, main meal was fall off the bone lamb (beautifully cooked) with chive mash followed by baileys cheesecake -
Every bit was delightful, could not fault a thing, we highly recommend this fine restaurant for a lovely cosy atmosphere, if you can get a seat there before the Christmas menu goes off the board you will not be disappointed! Don't miss out if you can.
Also plenty of cask ales to be had to should you like the real deal beers....
Staff are fabulous, place is cosy, warm and perfect for a total delightful meal.
I shall be returning asap....
Thanks to all there, see you soon

We visited The Monro last Sunday for a late lunch and were tremendously impressed by the whole experience. The food was fantastic (Ham Hock terrine starter and Roast Beef main being particular highlights). The atmosphere of the dining rooms and bar area is so relaxed that at times you forget you are so close to a bustling city centre. The staff were attentive and both the food and wine were exceptional value (£11.95 for two course and a bottle of lovely Malbec for £14). This place is something of a well kept secret - in fact I'm not sure why I'm letting anyone else know!
Not to be missed,

Stopped here one Saturday afternoon after it was recommended by a friend and on this website. To say we where not disappointed is an understatement. We just went off the set menu at £9.99 a head for two courses and the food was exceptional for what we paid.
Not only that but the service was excellent and the atmosphere was relaxed and enjoyable. I would recommend this to virtually anyone who enjoys good food in a nice setting. Its position for most of the city is good too.
We ate at one of the more 'exclusive' restaurants in Liverpool the weekend before at a much higher price and this beat it. Hands down.
You will not be disappointed.
