The Morritt Arms Hotel sits in the Teesdale countryside at Greta Bridge, near Barnard Castle, and has a rich history stretching back to the seventeenth century. Today a four-star country house hotel, spa retreat and popular wedding venue, it was visited by Dickens, Turner and Sir Walter Scott and in the middle of last century famous artist John Gilroy created much of the artwork that adorns the walls of the casual dining Dickens Bar and Bistro. Gilroy’s Restaurant is the AA-rosetted fine dining restaurant in the main house where young and passionate Head Chef Ory Vanes serves classic English dishes with a modern twist. The menu changes regularly and is based around fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Gilroy’s is open for lunch, afternoon tea and dinner.
