This is our joint favourite Chinese restaurant in Manchester by far! Its the sort of place you go when you're in the know rather than a run of the mill Chinese. Prices are average for an in town restaurant but worth every penny....the food is exceptional. Try the traditional clay oven roasted pork Cantonese style....a mouthful to order but a taste sensation that typifies the quality of the food. Service is very good...attentive yet not overpowering. The decor (recently updated) is excellent and adds to the quality feel of the restaurant. Go early or book as its always full (a good sign). Excellent City Centre choice.

We had always stumbled into China Town previously when we wanted Chinese, its easy to miss the rice bowl! What a nice change from the glaring lights and "all-you-can-eat" scenario you come across so often in China Town - the food was delicious and the range of choice was amazing! would particularly recommend King Prawn or Fillet Steak dishes although could not really fault anything! Service was attentive but discreet and the restaurant has a lovely ambience. will definitely be back!

I've been to the Rice Bowl a couple of times and on both occasions it has been a very enjoyable experience.
The food is superb and the menu caters well for us vegetarians. The staff were also excellent and offered a level of service sorely lacking in a lot of restaurants nowadays. On my second visit I was with a party of twelve as it was my birthday. Surprisingly we were able to order from the full menu, something which a lot of restaurants won't allow you to do. At the end of the meal I was presented with ice cream dessert with candles whilst the whole restaurant sang happy birthday. Then to top it all they gave me a box of chocolates and wished me a happy birthday.
It's that kind of personal touch that makes all the difference! It's clear to see how this restaurant has lasted over 50 years in the business.

We went to the Rice Bowl as could not face the walk into Chinatown from the city centre and was very happy we did not bother. Going early meant we were able to chose from the Pre Fix menu, which was £9.50 for two courses. The service was excellent and very attentive and we were surprised that we were not on our own at 5.15pm. The hot and sour soup was just that! And the chicken with asparagus and cashews was fantastic and the sliced beef in Peking sauce was lovely and sticky! All washed down with free refills of Chinese tea. We had a lovely night out and we will certainly recommending The Rice Bowl to our friends who live in Manchester and going there again when we can.

Rice Bowl
Great, I personally thought it was better quality and service than the Yang Sing.

Afer diving in off the street, from a cold and rainy night in Manchester we wondered what to expect. Well it was not at its busiest but the staff made us feel at ease right away. The food? No other option for us but the seafood banquet - Sharks fin & crab soup, salt n pepper squid, steamed scallops n the shell and a huge baked lobster (just for starters!) were all beautiful. Four main courses completed the set including king prawn and mange tout and steamed lemon sole, the sole was extremely delicate. Steaming hot sake finished it all off nicely - oh and the beautifully chilled fresh fruit platter. £80 all in for two of us, including the cigarettes they popped out to buy for us. Very nice, we'll definately be back.
