my wife and i had a meal here on thursday night,i had the steak and ale pie which really is homemade, not like many other places that say this but they are obviously not, my wife had chicken kiev, and said it was the best kiev she has ever had,we didnt have anything else as one course was all we could manage,a really good pint of fosters, wine great aswell, lovely friendly pub and staff, will definitely go again and probably stay overnight, next time in area which hopefully will be soon, would reccomend a visit to anyone.

Goats cheese tart burnt and too hard to eat same applied to beef burger, child's meal 2 fish fingers and chips for £9.00 extortionate. Over priced poor quality food.

After touring the Yorkshire Dales we stayed at Scotch Corner and found The Shoulder of Mutton via its website. Lovely friendly, efficient service and welcome. The starters were delicious and well-presented, we asked for a delay before our main course, this was no problem. My partner had the shoulder cut of lamb for her main course, whilst I had a delicious home-made beef and ale pie. I can thoroughly recommend this wonderful gastro-pub.

I live in North Wales, I'm a frequent visitor to Middleton Tyas. On Friday night I visited tthe Shoulder of Mutton and had plaice and king prawns in garlic butter with a wonderful side salad .This was a fantastic meal I was really surprised how good value for money it was as I recently visited a well known seafood restaurant in LLandudno and found the exorbitant price did not match up to this wonderful meal. I would not be disheartened if I had to pay the same price at the Shoulder of Mutton for the quality, service and ambience I received, but never the less it was nice in these times of recession to receive such value for money. Thank you to everyone at the Shoulder Of Mutton I will be back very soon .

I had an excellent meal at the Shoulder of Mutton on Monday; the spinach accompanying the pigeon breast was deliciously steamed, the meat itself nicely marinaded and tender, and the raspberry jus was perfect. It is a small oasis set in the desert of motorway services, and I recommend it highly.

Recently I was part of a large filming unit that stayed at Scotch Corner... this pub was a real find! The food was excellent, everyone of the large crew enjoyed their meal, spread the word, and soon we were all coming to The Shoulder. The landlord and land lady were extremely welcoming and adapted to our large numbers at very short notice, and without taking a hit to their superb service and excellent food. Thoroughly recommend a turn off from the A1!

I had a wonderful meal a couple of nights ago at the Shoulder of Mutton, my choice of Fishcake starter and a Duck main course were splendid.. The Duck was cooked exactly as I like it, I asked for it rare, it was totally mouth watering. Having eaten many times here I have never once been disappointed, the quality of the food is excellent and very good value for money. The waiting staff were very attentive and friendly, see you again very soon.

Recently visited the Shoulder of Mutton for dinner which was excellent, great value for money and the crackling on the pork was scrummy. Went back for a second visit as I had been told how good Sunday lunch was and I have to say I wasn't disappointed as their locally sourced Roast Beef was excellent, very tender and cooked to perfection. I will be returning very soon to sample more of what they have to offer. Great food and a very warm welcome and good service, my partner had commented on how good the real ales are.
