What an amazing place to eat! My wife and I stumbled across this lovely looking building whilst looking for somewhere to have our evening meal. The best places often seem to be the tucked away ones, and The White House is such a hidden gem. We had no idea what to expect when we got there, and were immediately pleasantly surprised by the decor and relaxed vibe of the place. We were taken care of constantly from the moment we arrived with drinks offered, canopes brought and coats hanged up for us. And as for the food, well it was without doubt among the best we've ever tasted, cooked to perfection and brought swiftly. It was one of those memorable meals that you look back on for many years to come, positioned well above the average, mediocre and forgettable that seem to be so commonplace. The standard of service was brilliant too with us being tended to consistently throughout our time there. Our table was somewhat tucked away, and as a result in some restaurants we've sometimes felt forgotten about. That was not the case with The White House as we were made to feel very valued as customers from start to finish. We left with a very pleasant exchange with the warm and friendly staff, promising to put our comments on Sugarvine, and vowing to return. Well the Sugarvine comments are on, and now we're so much looking forward to doing the other bit, going back to this amazing hidden gem.

We ( a party of 8) have just spent our 4th new years break here. Once again the staff have come up trumps. The New Years Eve meal was fabulous. The service was excellent and the ambience of the hotel still remains friendly and welcoming.. Its a great place to stay and even a better place to eat. Miss it miss out

my wife and i ate at this delightful restaurant 18 months ago and had a wonderful meal. since then we have talked about another trip to the lake district and, more importantly perhaps, another meal at The White House.

My wife and I ate at the White House on Friday 5th June 2009. We are both in our forties and really enjoy a good night out with good company and great food. Without doubt at the White House we weren’t disappointed; we had a fabulous evening! The food and wine was excellent and all at a reasonable price. Please be assured this is not a pub restaurant in our opinion. It’s much more. Janine was our hostess for the night and she and her colleagues looked after us very well. The service is attentive without being on your shoulder every second. Consequently we have no hesitation to recommend this anyone who is in the area.

We ate at the White House on the first evening of a 3 day holiday in Bowness. We normally prefer to try different places to eat when we are away, but were so impressed that we came back again on our 3rd evening. The food is excellent - a good selection on the menu with additional daily specials, all perfectly cooked and well presented. The staff are polite, friendly and attentive. The Fish of the Day dish we ate on our second visit was among the best sea bass I have eaten, incredible flavour and perfectly cooked. If you have room, the puddings are also well worthwhile and prepared with the same thought and care as the rest of the dishes - the sticky chocolate pudding is a must for chocoholics (lovely and rich without being too sweet) and there is an extensive list of homemade ice creams in various flavours.
All in all, we're just sorry we don't live locally so we could visit more often! Excellent food at a very reasonable price, highly recommended.

We had a most enjoyable meal here last Thursday (21/5/09). Excellent food and wine, all competitively priced. The staff were most pleasant and attentive, even though the restaurant was full. When on holiday, we tend to visit different restaurants each evening but were so impressed with The White House that we returned on 22/5/09 and enjoyed the experience a second time, even though Bowness has many restaurants from which to chose!

Tricky to find but well worth the search, exquisite food and service made for a thoroughly enjoyable and well priced evening. Well done!

We had our first meal at The White House on Saturday 4th April.
The meal was, without exagerration, one of the best I have eaten in a restaurant for some time - the chef clearly knows what he is doing and every course was superb, from the complimentary canapes and homemade bread that we were offered the moment we sat down, to the homemade pistachio ice-cream to round the meal off!
Service was impeccable and very genuine. Decor was minimalistic and modern. There are good restaurants a many in Bowness, but The White House has got to be worth a try if you've not been before - we will be going back!

tucked away but needs to be shouted about, tasty food beautifully presented and excellent value we stayed overnight in one of the boutique style rooms and enjoyed the breakfast too !
Lovely cheery staff, proud of the local resourcing . We hope it does well, we will be returning but its a long way from berkshire.

I have eaten at the White House many times. Its my favourite eatery in Bowness. The choice of food is excellent and is always of high quality. It is reasonably priced and the ambience of the hotel is excellent. I recently had the pleasure of holding a wedding celebration for 16 people there and Janine, Duncan and Dave could not have been more helpful or accommodating. Even though it was a large party, (including 2 small children) the food and the service was still of the highest standard. I would recommend anyone visiting the Bowness / Windermere area to pay a visit, They wont be disappointed
