I visited The Wizard in December on the recommendation of friends, so I knew it was going to be good but I was somewhat surprised at just how good it was. I don't tend to write recommendations but my 2nd visit on Sunday 11th of January for lunch just confirmed what a truly superb place this is. The location is perfect, surrounded by farmland and forest but just 5 minutes from the centre of Alderley. The period property with it's low ceilings, beams, flagstone flooring and eclectic furniture sets the scene for a very comfortable couple of hrs dinning and the kitchen staff certainly deliver on the all important food front. Menus ticked all the boxes for my party and the food was just wonderful on both occasions - perfectly cooked and presented. The staff really add their bit to the mix with very attentive but discreet service, which is just how I like it. Special mention must go to the manager, who couldn't do enough for us and delivered our meal with polish and zeal - he would be a credit to any of London's top restaurants. The only downside we could think of relates to certain aspects of the interior, such as a ceiling stained from a water leak, missing plaster work from the ceiling and other areas that looked like the might fall down on our heads plus lights that I can only assume are defective due to missing bulbs. Friends tell me it's been like this for a couple years, which is a shame as The Wizard seriously needs a bit of TLC and I'm surprised the owners haven't made this happen with so much competition in the area - it will be close to perfection if it ever happens! Recommended!!

Excellent food in wonderful country cottage environment, very romantic in the evenings and cosily comfortable for lunchtime. Nothing too much trouble for the excellent serving staff. Menu changes regularly so one you will never get bored with.

we recently visited the wizard are were so pleased we found it! we had one of the best meals we have had for a very long time in an area which seems to be dominated by-middle-of-the-road Italian or Italianesque eateries. The staff were very charming and polite and nothing seemed too much trouble. We had some great scallops and duck spring rolls for starters followed by a barrel fillet steak that melted in the mouth with a lovely cheesy mushroom sauce & good creamy mash. The Seabass was also excellent and obviously very fresh with some tender local asparagus. The puddings were "to die for" - the best brownie i've ever had - and i've had a few! and a really good brulee rounded off our meal - all washed down with some very good house wines - altogether an excellent meal! we booked again while we were there and intend to return regularly. Keep up the good word Wizard and we will spread the word to those we think worthy!!

I found the food to be excellent and the atmosphere/service was very good. My new favourite restaurant!

The food at the Wizard was fantastic with a good choice from a menu, which appears to change regularly. However, it was lacking some what in atmosphere with many of the other diners being of the do you know who I am variety, although good for people watching if you are into that, not my idea of a fun night out. If you are into your food then by all means go and enjoy. BUT Wizard please ditch the cheapo paper serviettes and invest in some nice linen ones, far more appropriate for a place of your calibre.
