Under the same ownership as The Black Bull, the Three Hares in Sedbergh is a café, bistro and bakery that’s open from 9am-5pm, Tuesday to Saturday. Co-owner Nina Matsunaga was born in Germany to Japanese parents and learned the baking trade both in Dusseldorf - where bakeries still make up to 100 varieties of bread – and in the north of England where she worked with several of the region’s ‘new wave’ bakers. The mix of cultures is reflected in her baking as well as her range of cakes and pastries which include Scones, Teacakes and Victoria Sponges as well as Continental-influenced Cinnamon Swirls, Red Wine & Chocolate Cake and Pear & Cinnamon. The bakery has a selection of around 10 different breads to choose from and the Three Hares is open for breakfast and lunch with soups and sandwiches available. Cookery classes can be arranged and the Three Hares can accept special group bookings on request.
