We recently visited this Cafe On THE strength of THE other reviews on here. I was totally disappointed by it. I ordered à margerita but they didnt have any mint!! Thistle was à Saturday night in à mexican restaurant. I thought this was à pretty staple ingredient in such places. THE tortillas were bland. THE enchillada i ordered was à dry tortilla with plain processed chicken and tinned

We have been so disappointed by only other 2 mexicans in the area that on my birthday I drove from Newcastle to Durham and drank Coke just to try Tia's out. What a fab place, decor a bit cafe-like but the food and service were fab. Everything was excellent and we will come back again and again. At last a decent Mexican restaurant in the NE!!!!

I went last night before going to the nearby theatre. An ideal start to a evening.
Real homemade tortilla chips and salsa arrive at the table immediately. This was followed as a huge plate of Nachos with lots of cheese and sour cream dotted with jalapenos. The standard fare of tortillas, stuffed and fried were available either with rice or chips.
The re-fried beans were to die for. This was really good Tex Mex food at great price. The service was was really good.
With a jug of Margaritas i could think of a better way to spend an evening in Durham.

Recently visited with my girlfriend on a Tuesday night. We wanted to try Mexican, but avoid the large chains such as Chiquitos. This small, trendy restaurant was friendly and the Ford was lovely. The service was quick and efficient and although it was quiet on this occasion I imagine the place is packed on a weekend. If you're in Durham and fancy Mediterranean/Mexican cuisine definitely come here. I had spicy chicken wings and BBQ dip for starters followed my Chilli Beef enchiladas and rice, washed down with a couple of chilled bottles of Corona and we ended the night with a tequila slammer. Good night and under £20 a head.

Excellent food, plenty of it, staff excellent-quick, very helpful and friendly. Bucket of beer great and iced glasses nice touch. Happy hour is great price and food just as good as normal menu. Highly recommend this restaurant to singles and families.

we went a couple of weeks ago and i thought i would have problems choosing food as i have a peanut allergy, and foolishly the previous week we went to a chain restaurant over the road and it seemed nothing could be changed on our meals. I couldn't have been more wrong; the manager explained how everything was fresh and they could adapt ingredients. I had ribs with chicken and instead of having batter (as she explained they couldn't say was nut free) i had grilled chicken instead. The staff went out of their way to double check all ingredients and it was a fab night. the food was inexpensive, the atmosphere was nice, the staff were always friendly and attentive and i can understand why there seemed to be a regular customers in that the staff were speaking to. We will certainly return.
