We booked a table for 10, deposit paid. We were split into 2 tables. Immediately on arrival one lady ordered the baguette. The other 8 chose the carvery. 20 mins after people began to eat the carvery the baguette arrived (in total 35 minutes since ordering) This was accompanied by a stone cold Yorkshire pudding and barely warm roast potatoes. The puddings took 15 mins to serve, one at once with lengthy gaps in between. Same situation with the coffee - most people finishing before others were served. One being so cold it was returned. The waitress appeared to be the only one on duty, rushing around and understandably very surly. Our last venture to the Rudyard was a disaster and we were told it had improved - no such luck!

Third visit this month for my wife and I and it just gets better, super pork, ham.turkey and beef and the carving chef is generous with the portions, the veg selection was again first classin particular the cauliflower cheese roast potatoes have become nicer, the gravies and all the sauces were excellent the only trouble is once you get you share and thelarge yorkshire on the top theres no more room fore anything else The Rudyard carvery caters for and should please everyone

We really enjoyed our breakfast 32 years ago today. It was the morning after the day we got married.

Don't bother unless there are at least six of you eating, this includes children in the party even after 7pm, when you would think it would be child free, especially on a Sun! Over an hour is not a 30min waiting time. There was not the selection of food as mentioned in another review. There was Gammon, Turkey or Beef. There was also no broccoli or cauliflower and one chef and from what I saw, two waitresses serving, no surprise there was a big queue and ridiculous wait for tables.
My advice to The Rudyard, be prepared, get organised and put customers on a first come first served basis, not how much money you can squeeze out of people in one sitting, shame on you.
Rudyard Hotel
The Rudyard is part of the "Innkeepers lodge" Toby carvery group. It has recently been re-furbished. The dull dingy atmosphere has gone, the place is now pastel colours. Watch out for the "risque" postcards on the wall. The "Carvery" is now available between 12.-5.00pm Mon-Sat at £4.99,excellent value for money. Choice of Gammon,Turkey,Beef in Guinnness pie, Roast rib of beef, accompanied by the self service selection of broccoli, cauliflower cheese, cabbage, carrots, roast parsnip, yorkshire pud. The only restriction is how much you can fit on a plate. Choice of 6 starters £3.25 to £1.99. The summer salad deal is £6.45,gammon &honey mustard with free glass of wine. Various other selections, see the menu. Kids menu available, high chairs for th kids. Bottle of Argentinian red,£7.95 quite good aswell. Update has certainly made this establishment a lot better.
