Tokyo Season on Manchester's Portland Street is a Japanese restaurant that's been open three years and has built up a great reputation. The chefs here trained in Japan and as well as offering the more familiar sushi, sashimi and teppanyaki dishes, the menu – which changes four times a year – contains more obscure choices like Chawan-mushi, a traditional Japanese savoury steamed custard. Fresh tuna is delivered daily and the clientele includes lots of Japanese customers, which is always a good indication of authenticity. The décor is minimalist in style here and a popular recent addition has been the Tatami Rooms – unique in Manchester -- which with their sliding doors offer a degree of privacy which is perfect for both business meetings and families. Tokyo Season is open for lunch and dinner every day.
I went to this restaurant over the weekend. I was very impressed by the freshness of the fish and the chefs extensive knowledge. The sashimi is the perfect thickness. My little one loves the Eel rice. Definately going back there again. Highle recommend the plum wine.
Excellent service and cosy environment. Must go!

I went to Tokyo Season for a late lunch on Sunday with my girlfriend. We have ordered a sashimi platter and a few forty percent off sushi. All food is fresh and in good presentation but very poor service. We asked for hot water to top up our green tea cups. The waitress seems don't know what we saying. She brought us tap water with ice. So we explained again, she rolled her eyes, raising her voice "Hot water is not free." With a fed up attitude. I wont go again for a poor service like this. As a customer we all want good service, nice food and value for money.

Had a night there to celebrate my partners birthday in July (2011). We had a "booth" to ourselves. My partner adores sushi and has eaten in the best of Japanese restaurants; she rated this outstanding!! I hate the stuff and had rib-eye steak rolls; outstanding! Then they turned the lights out and played happy birthday whilst presenting her with a cake and candle. This was great, and she was suitably embarrassed. Must say though, the Japanese version of Happy Birthday lasted nearly 3 minutes!!!
Nevertheless, three courses, beer, coffee, etc, all came to £59. VALUE. Please go there. It doesn't look much from the outside, but inside its great. Excellent service, and all this on a Saturday evening. Will definitely go there again- and again. By the way, stayed at the Mint hotel, 3 minutes walk away. Outstanding!!

I had one heck of a great meal at this fantastic restaurant the other week. The sushi/sashimi platter was excellent, and the Beef Teriyaki was supreme. I shall definitely be visiting again, and hope to do so regularly.

Good standard of food, but a lot left to be desired! Recently went to celebrate a birthday in a group of 10(2 young children included) had booked in advance and was really looking forward to good Japanese food having read the reviews. Although the food was good, we had to keep reminding the staff about drinks and any extras we ordered, even though the restaurant was not full. Finally although we asked at the beginning to pay separate bills, we had to wait over 45 mins paying the bill, 15mins waiting at the table and another 20 mins plus, stood waiting around whilst the waitress tried to work it all out. Very disappointing, especially as this meant our friends with the children had to leave ahead early as the children were getting restless having to wait so long. I left feeling extremely disappointed that on a special occasion we left wondering if we had been overcharged as the waitress could not explain the bill and seem to work things out properly on the calculator and the bills individually seemed expensive. But after 40 mins we just wanted to go. Good food, but definitely would not go again if more than 3 or 4 people, as being a bigger group seemed to be problematic to the restaurant

We went to Japan last year and really wanted to try something authentic now we are home. The atmosphere was great, and the staff friendly and very helpful/attentive. We tried the authentic Japanese seating and had the Tokyo Season Platter starter, followed by Katsu Curry, washed down with hot Sake. The food was wonderful and just what I was hoping for. I can't recommend this place highly ENOUGH. Fantastic!!

We went to Tokyo seasons for the 5h time just before Xmas and was yet again blown away by the quality of all the food on offer.
The staff are excellent, and the blend of fresh sushi with excellent hot dishes, means that it is a good place o take those people sceptical of Japanese food.
Give it a try, you won't be disappointed!
