One word "WOW"- absolutely the best meal we have had this year and undoubtedly the best steak ever. The staff were very attentive and friendly but the food was outstanding. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone. It's worth coming to New Quay just for this restaurant - absolutely fantastic!

We spent a very happy family reunion/birthday celebration at Traeth and had a really great time! The atmosphere is relaxed and very welcoming for all ages (our youngest was 6 and oldest 65...17 of us all together). The food was delicious and beautifully prepared and presented. The chef was out and about chatting to us and other people and happily consented to create starters from some of the main dishes for my ravenous brothers! Having finished our lovely meal and spent the afternoon on the adjacent beach, we all said that we would definitely return to Traeth. It's excellent food at good prices, and I am very happy to recommend it highly :)

We ate here on a birthday trip around the west Wales coast and after discovering this place we'll certainly be returning to New Quay. The setting is perfect but New Quay always lacked a quality place to dine. An anchor that will give you a reason to revisit, say in the way that Aberaeon has Harbourmaster.
The service was excellent - friendly and really knowledgeable about the menu. The ingredients are top quality, and we had the best lamb in years. Their homemade sausage is worth the trip alone and the black pudding was the best I ever tasted. I would ear that like pate! Given that the menu prices are the same as the rest of the frozen to microwave places on the seafront, I really cannot recommend enough.
Nige is both a wonderful chef and host and this was the highlight of the whole trip.

My first visit to Wales and what an amazing meal. We decided to visit after a recommendation from a client of mine who had visited the month before and I was not disappointed. From the atmosphere to the service, everything was excellent. The chocolate dessert was quite simply the most mouth watering, delicious thing I have ever eaten. Well done Traeth and the team involved. You are attentive to your customers and make them feel welcome. I will definitely visit again next time I am in Wales.

Meat. I bloody love it, particularly beef. And I heard that Traeth knocks up a pretty bang on steak. So I sauntered down from London and I wasn't disappointed.
But first the starter. I was slightly dismayed at first to see that the steak tartare wasn't on when I ate here. Not to detract from the other options available, which if what I ate was anything to go by would all have been worthy appetisers, but I was here for raw beef.
As luck would have it they weren't too busy and the chef was more than happy to prep me a tartare on the spot. It was historic. People wonder how I can get so excited about uncooked chopped steak. They are probably communists. The combination of ingredients, taste, texture was sublime. I wanted more. It set me up well for the steak that followed.
Bringing us on to the 10oz Rump. Some may deride this choice when sirloin and fillet is up for grabs but bugger them, I like a no-nonsense chunk of bloodied flesh on my plate. And to further crank up the sheer manliness of my meal, I opted for the Bone Marrow butter (which is served inside little sections of bone). My caveman ancestors would be proud.
Cooked Rare of course; it was soft, yielding, unctuous yet undeniably meaty. It was how good steak should be. And the triple-cooked chips were golden, crunchy and smooth. Like eating an angel's fingers...
I didn't have pudding as I was quite replete with 14oz of cow's arse sitting contentedly in my stomach. The missus had a chocolaty thing which I tried and felt like crying as I desperately wanted my own chocolaty thing but wished to avoid a Mr Creosote-style ending to our evening. She ploughed through hers like a starved koala who just found a bowl of eucalyptus leaves.
The wine list was compact but very reasonably priced. I had a Malbec which was eminently quaffable and did an admirable job of washing down my meat overload. Also provided was some marvellous water with cucumber in it. Being an advocate of cucumber in gin I'm surprised I'd never experimented with humble water myself. The result is superbly refreshing. And free.
All in all, a bloody good meal. The only issue I had, which is no fault of Traeth's, is that it was fairly quiet. On a Saturday evening. What the Hell is going on here people of West Wales? There is no equal within any reasonable travelling distance. I guess there could be a slight comparison to Aberaeron's Harbourmaster. However, whereas Traeth is fresh and modern, The HM is a flabby sub-par shadow of what it once was.
Now stop reading my meandering prose, get yourself to Traeth and eat.

Absolutely sublime from start to finish. I could have cheerfully had a taster plate with one of everything, the menu is so appealing and carefully put together. Service efficient, professional and polite - water provided on arrival. And the food..oh the food - my rillettes were salty and unctuous and offset beautifully by cranberry and wonderful warm bread. My main course was the most divine steak I have ever had. Despite this being an upmarket establishment I had to gnaw the bone to ensure I got every last gram of butterlike flesh. Even the sides are exceptional - the mixed leaves were coated in a tangy dressing which set the tastebuds zinging. To finish I went for the cheeseboard which again is a labour of love due to careful sourcing - a delicate blend of blue, brie, smoked and cave matured cheddar each of which is a masterpiece and comes with a gorgeous home-made chutney. My husband practically ate the plate from under his sticky toffee pudding. Every last little second of this meal was perfection - I keep rambling to anyone who'll listen about how fabulous it was. Keep at it Nigel and team you really have something special there. Thank you so much for a meal I will remember forever!

Lovely food in a really relaxed friendly environment. Great to see local produce cooked really well in an imaginative and inspiring way. Rarely eat 3 courses, but had to try as much as possible from the menu as it all sounded (and was) wonderful. Good variety of inexpensive wines to choose from. Loved it so much, taking the family back for Sunday brunch.

Fabulous meal in a great atmosphere! Nige Jones and his team made my wife and I feel welcome straight away. The food was an absolute treat, scallops to start, ribeye for main and a chocolate trio to finish....devine! Good value too.

My husband and I had lunch on the terrace here on Monday, 2/8/10. The crab linguine was delicious, and so was the whole plaice. Lovely olives.

The food we had here was fantastic, the plaice was cooked to perfection and the desserts were absolutely amazing. Gooseberry fool was so tasty and the chocolate trio went down a treat. The kids enjoyed their food, and enjoyed relaxing on the balcony after eating. Definitely a place to visit and we will be doing so again very soon
