About Ulysses

Situated in Birmingham city centre, Ulysses is a bright and vibrant Greek-themed restaurant perfect for parties and fun meals with friends. Established in 1986, the refurbished Ulysses offers genuine Greek food cooked by a Greek chef. Stylish and fresh, Ulysses has a lovely Mediterranean ambience and this family-owned restaurant is just five minutes from New Street station. Ulysses specialises in Greek favourites such as kleftico, stifado, moussaka, and keftedes alongside an authentic mezze selection, complete with 24 different dishes. There are many vegetarian options and fresh grilled fish for the health-conscious. The varied menu is complemented by an extensive international wine menu, including fine Greek wines and organic wines from owner Panos' hometown in Tripolis (Peloponese). The kitsch dining room - with colourful frescoed walls and plaster columns - is home to belly dancers, disco music and a live bouzouki band. Popular for birthdays, hen nights, corporate events and office parties, Ulysses is a unique and entertaining venue for memorable nights out. Open 6pm til late, Tuesday to Sunday.

My party of 14 booked in october,ive been there many times and had fab nights but we were so disappointed on our last visit,1st of all it was freezing in there so we all sat in our coats all night so was a waste of time dressing up!,2 of our meals had 2 be sent back! also we all paid for a 4 course meal...only got 3 course,wasnt even offered coffee!!....we expected the belly dancer which our kids were excited to watch,we were told she was defo on that night,waited till 11.30 then was told she wasnt there!!!.....the entertainment and decor is dated now n there wasnt no atmosphere like before,therefore we left early and will not be going again!

We visited Ulysses on Friday 22 February for the first time. They had an Elvis night, it was absolutely fantastic!!!!, we will definitely back for the next one in June. The food was lovely i had King Prawns with a garlic white wine sauce and kleftico to follow, the meat just fell of the bone it was so tender and delicious. We complimented our meal with a bottle of greek organic wine from the owners home town Tripolis in Greece, we had a lot of choices from there extensive wine list. The restaurant was beautiful inside, very authentic, Greek statues, amazing bar!! it was out of this world!! The service was good the staff polite and very professional. We will definitely be back, for a night out or even a party, as there is something for everyone, weekend they have live Greek music , Greek dancing and belly dancing. We will definitely be recommending this Greek restaurant to all our friends. Why don't you try , you wont be disappointed!!

"We usually have a nightmare finding a restaurant that caters for my husband who is a vegetarian and myself who isn't. We have only found one that we regularly go back to in Birmingham until last night when we visited Ulysses. There was a huge range of starters for both of us, and a full page of vegetarian dishes. We started off with cocktails and were going to have a bottle of Greek wine, the wine list being extensive but as the cocktails were so nice we decided to stay with them, we tried four, all of them delicious. The starters were fantastic with the side salad crisp, no wilting lettuce here in a tasty dressing. I had slow roasted lamb which literally fell off the bone, juicy and tender. My husband had vegetarian souvlaki, which makes a change from the usual wishy washy offerings in other restaurants. I cant praise the food enough, you really need to try it yourself. Once you walk on the spotless red carpet you are led to a deceptively large dining area which manages to be intimate and spacious at the same time. It was a pleasure to eat there and we will definitely returning on a regular basis. They even have a night with Elvis in February. We had two cocktails each, three starters and a main meal each for less than £55. Great place, excellent service, fantastic night out. "

Ulysses does an excellent and reasonably priced MEZE; the atmosphere is very greek, with an authentic 2 man greek band playing most evenings. The seating area is simply ENORMOUS and the service is quick and attentive. Try and avoid friday evenings, however, as it can be very busy and boisterous.
