Went to the Valparaiso last night and the food wasn't that nice I struggled to eat it but got through most of it, it is pretty mediocre and the same tomato sauce seemed to have been used for three of our dishes. This was so disappointing as we went there a few years ago and the food was delicious and that is without exaggeration. I can only think the restaurant has changed hands and has a new chef. Used to be one of my favourite places to eat but no more.

The starters were very tasty and enjoyable but we were a bit disappointed with the house special. It was bland and didn't include the ingredients listed on the board. Maybe they were having an off-day, as we have visited before and had been very pleased.

Our whole experience with this restaurant was terrible. It started off well - I had booked a table for four and we arrived on time and were given the menus and the drinks order was taken straight away, however, we were immediately told that a lot of the things on the menu weren't available or had been substituted with something else, and we then waited a long time before someone came over to take our food order. We ordered four main meals (no starters), which consisted of two seafood skewers (prawns and calamari on a bed of salad), a chilean meat dish and a steak. We waited an hour for the food to arrive, during which time the waiter came over once to tell us our food was 'on its way in a bit'. When we complained we were given a round of complimentary drinks, even though we said we didn't want any, and when the food finally arrived it was a total disappointment. The steak was swimming in grease and was thrown on the plate with some chips and what looked like a whole shredded onion fried to within an inch of its life. The chilean dish did not come with any vegetables or sides such as rice or potatoes, which was not pointed out to us when we ordered, which meant that it was too late by then to order anything to go with it, and only one of the seafood skewers arrived. The other one took another ten minutes to be brought to the table, by which time we had had enough and asked for the bill. This was brought over quickly, and after we had sorted out our money the waiter came back over and told us they had left one of the meals off the bill! Altogether it cost us £20 each for one meal and one drink each, which took an hour to arrive and was nothing special at all. We left quickly, leaving no tip, and will not go back again.

I do NOT recommend this place! The staff were incapable of providing a pleasurable dining experience, particularly with regards to service. Our food took over an hour to arrive and no one offered us any explanation or apology for this. The waitress could not recommend any of the wines. The food was also a massive disappointment, nothing like what I've tried in Chile. To top it all off, we had to listen to reggaeton! I mean what is going on! I strongly suggest you reconsider if you're thinking about eating here. Sorry!

Was really looking forward to trying this restaurant for a special occasion. A couple of friends had enjoyed it (admittedly some time ago) and as my partner is vegetarian, the reviews on this site made it look like an ideal choice. I was extremely dissapointed. Initially I liked the feel of the place, we were shown politely to a nice window seat and the decor gave a good traditional feel. The placemats were a bit on the B&B side but that didnt deter. The wine was a good choice although the list was pricey. For starters my partner ordered the guacamole and being a seafood nut I went for the traditional seafood soup. The guacamole was simple but far tastier than most though the presentation and 'salad' let something to be desired. I thought I was being brought a wet dog when my soup arrived - the smell was overpowering. I held my nose and dived in. None of the seafood seemed very fresh (the king prawn was on its last legs) and was not helped by the soup stock which was very musty. I could by this point see the bill creeping above what I was prepared to pay after the soup. The main meals are very pricey. So I went for a vegetarian option as my partner could not choose between two dishes and these looked more reasonably priced. Her traditonal bean stew came in a big bowl surronded by limp triangles of bread and was, for the most part, tasteless. This along with its unpleasent consistency resulted in two mouthfulls before being pushed sheepishly away. I willingly offered to swap my dish, a goats cheese and ratatouille combination, as I found the cheese impossibly rich and bitter. After swapping we could stomach eachothers as well as we could stomach our own and left as soon as we could. I felt a fair bit emptier in the wallet and hoped for the Chilean's sake that this wasn't an accurate depiction of their cuisine

I was really impressed with Valparaiso - fabulous quirky unusual place right in the centre of Liverpool & owner/chef Julio gives it the really personal touch for a great atmosphere. My family loved their fish and meat main meals & I was blown away that a Chilean restaurant would specially cater for a vegan - which I am! Had one of the best vegan meals I've ever had there, better than in many a veggie restaurant... Will definitely be going back soon!

I'd been eyeing up Valparaiso for a while, as it looked so inviting and appealing. I was a bit disappointed with it. While the service was good, the food was a bit mixed. The mussels I had, as a starter were lovely and I enjoyed sampling the chachel main course, which is an unusual combination of meat, eggs and baked sweetcorn. My partner's steak, however, was not brilliant. For £16.95 we expected it to be lush but it was overcooked, chewy and the quality of meat wasn't high. So it was a mixed bag in terms of food but I couldn't help but think that all the food was slightly overpriced.

Excellent South-American food, with wide range of choice. Daily changing fish dishes are our favourites. We've been going regularly for years to this very consistent Restaurant. One of Liverpool's hidden gems! Highly recommended. Han & Lisa

Went to Valparaiso for the first time last week, will certainly visit again. The food was excellent and the service was friendly. We had a really great evening...thanks !
Valparaiso
Chilean is not my first thought for a meal out, but on the strength of this visit it will be. A good balance of meat, seafood and vegetarian meant we were spoilt for choice. The chilean specials were tasty and unusual; the fish soup a hearty mixture of recognisable vegetables and fish, I also had the pastel del choclo (a typical Chilean dish of minced beef topped with minced sweet corn) - excellent. My wife had mushrooms and then sea bass. All appreciated with the traditional empty plate. A light Chilean sauvignon blanc slipped down too easily and the meal was followed up with fresh mango and coffee. It was surprising how quiet the restaurant was for a saturday night, but be sure this was not a reflection on the quality of the food or the restaurant, but you just don't think chilean - unless you know. We'll be back.
