Tried to book a table at the Shoulder of Mutton, Holcombe, only to be told that they were closed as the kitchen was being re-fitted (re-opens 5th Feb). The young lady offered to book me in at their sister pub, the Victoria Hotel. We booked in with a little trepidation as we had heard the Shoulder was good but knew nothing of the Victoria. Well, had a fabulous evening! They have got the balance between pub and restaurant just right - retained a couple of small rooms around the bar for drinkers and small, separate dining room for diners. A good selection of real ales, reasonably priced wines by glass and bottle, good, friendly service from young bar and waiting staff. Menu had good mix of traditional English fayre, (Hot pot, fish & chips, etc) and more modern English cuisine - hare with ratatouille, pheasant. All excellent value for the money.
Speaking to Andrew after the meal I can confirm it is in the same ownership as the Shoulder. Good luck to both establishment.

I do believe this has been taken over by the same people who have the Shoulder of mutton in holcombe village. The chef and his business partner own both. Both are great pubs to Dine in. Food fab.. Keep it up

What a lovely place, stopped going to the Vic years ago (landlady was awful) but decided to give it a try because all my friends have said a lot of good things about it, definitely not disappointed, the food was as it states (real food) not microwave as you would find in most of the pubs in and around bury. Staff very polite and eager to make your evening as relaxing and enjoyable as they possibly can. I will be recommending the Victoria to many more of my friends and hope that some of the people that was put off when the rude landlady was there also give the Victoria a try, its just what Walshaw needs!!!
